“For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh” (Philippians 3:3, NIV).
The final element of Paul’s definition of who we are in Christ is this: we are the ones who put no confidence in the flesh. We don’t measure our worth in God’s sight by our accomplishments, our good works, how smart we are or how many friends we have. “Whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ” (Philippians 3:7, NIV).

How can you grow with God? Talk to us
This is the total renouncing of anything that might give me status or a high standing among the people of this world whether religious or secular, because I understand that absolutely nothing I do can give me standing with God.
• Not a University degree or a Bible College diploma
• Not being able to trace my ancestors back to Martin Luther
• Not attending church every Sunday from the day I was born
• Not political activism to defend biblical principles
• Not tithing on my gross income rather than my net income
• Not volunteering countless hours in schools or homeless shelters
• Not giving up a lucrative career to serve on the mission field
We may do all these things, but our confidence does not come from them. Instead our confidence comes from Jesus Christ. He alone is the reason I have confidence in my position before God. Thus we are free to serve God without measuring ourselves against anyone or anything.
Heavenly Father, forgive my pride, thinking that the things I have done somehow make me worthy before You. I want to be one of those who put no confidence in the flesh, but rather put all my confidence in Jesus Christ, my redeemer.
Questions: Are there things you need to stop putting confidence in? Why is it freeing to put your confidence in Christ alone?

we need to trust in Christ alone.
Amen to all your responses ladies. This is an issue that we all battle at one time or another to differing degrees isn’t it? At times I forget to ‘put my confidence in HIM alone.’ Living w/chronic illness I am alone much of the time and have discovered that I often find myself leaning upon my husband far more than I should. Thanks for this word today! Just today I was reminded of this promise: He will never give us more than we can handle. I throw it out there for all of you along w/a prayer that HE lead and guide you all. Blessings
Thank you for this devotional. Currently, God is pruning me (after a healing time), I feel like He has put me back into training & pruning.. pray for me, that I’d stand strong in the Lord. It is funny how ‘heart-wrenching’ the Christian walk can be at times, especially with all the breaking, pruning, and refining the Lord does.. I do not want to complain, but I must admit it is not easy at times.. I pray God will sustain each of us, & truly give us the grace & strength to get through whatever it is He has called us to do. O Lord, give us the boldness to live-out our callings. Protect us & give us the grace, wisdom & strength we need to daily live our lives in Jesus’ Name. We love you Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Dear Suzanne,
Thank you for this good word. How freeing it is when we realize our true value in Christ and we don’t need to compare.

Hi Arlette,
DON”T keep underestimating yourself. No matter what trials you may have….God knows exactly what you need. You might not like right now where you are….but He knows where you have to stretch and grow. He knows what you can handle, and what you can’t handle. My guess is that He has a place right now for you. It’s important that you don’t close your ears, or your heart to those fellow Christians around you who may knowingly or unknowingly be there to be used by Him to guide you in the path He wants you to take.
Ask yourself…what gift has God given me that I was not using in my old job? Maybe that’s a clue.
Best wishes to you….I will keep you in my prayers.
I too, am a forty something who has ventured into uuncharted territory, fought alot of the way, and ffinally have said…. God…this is your plan. Use me where you see fit.
It’s hard not to be pulled into world views when you are going through something like this.

hi there, thank u 4 giving me reasons to humble myself in everyway. i must say, i ave a form of pride which sets in even when i dont want it to.its quite sad cos, i only realize after i have exhibited that pride. i pray God helps me kill d peacock n cockrodile pride in me and every other person battling with it.
Thanks so much for this. I lost my job almost 6 months ago. Unlike many people who have lost so much my husband has a good job and we are doing OK. However I have felt like a total failure because I am not working. I have wondered why I went to college etc and here I am 40 years old and no job! A friend actually stopped being my friend behind this. It has really hurt and left me depressed. But as I read this I wondered if that isn’t putting confidence in the flesh? Does God think I am a failure or does He know the plans He has for me? Whatever was to my profit, a good job that paid well, is a loss for the sake of my Lord. I pray my confidence will be in Him and not the measures of my own self.I feel both chided and hopeful now. Thank you!
