True Confidence

Written by Gail Rodgers

Her faith felt weak as she faced this new challenge. Her husband lost his job and it was just before Christmas. Inwardly shaky yet outwardly strong she said all the right and reassuring things. She only wished she could believe them.

Faith is easy when the way is well lit. Yet when you walk in the dim light of struggles, faith must be a decision. God knows we will sometimes feel shaky in our faith.  He puts promises in His Word to become a lifeline in those “rock your world” moments that surprise all of us at times.

If you are in one of those times right now then know this, “GOD IS ABLE”! Listen to the promise of His Word to you, His child…

“And GOD IS ABLE
to make all grace abound (overflow!) to you
so that in all things
at all times
having all that you need
you WILL abound (overflow) in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8, NIV).

Take your eyes off of your circumstance right now just for a moment. Turn your focus to this verse and say out loud, “God is able!”.

He can give you what you need as you face your particular challenge. His grace will extend to your emotions too so that you will be able to overflow even to the point of touching others.  This is more than just surviving; more than simply getting by… this is tapping into the divine help and strength of our God who is able!

Choose to have faith in His desire and ability to help you. Determine to trust Him today. Ask Him to increase your faith. Write “GOD IS ABLE” on a scrap of paper and put it on your computer screen, your mirror or the dash of your car. Look for His grace to be extended to you in your circumstances and in your emotions.

As you focus on God, rather than on your current challenge, you will be made new in the attitude of your mind. (Ephesians 4:23, NIV)  Can we pray for you? Send your requests and one of our mentors will pray for you.

Father God,
You alone know how shaky I feel on the inside. I ask You today to strengthen my faith. Help me to focus on You, my God who is able. Give me an expectant heart and an attitude of true confidence that You will be all I need.
In Jesus’ strong name I pray, amen.

Questions: What challenge are you facing today? How are you handling it? What are God’s promises to you in regards to facing your difficulties?

Be ready for whatever comes your way. Take the Fruits of the Spirit life lesson and grow closer to God as you let His spirit work through you.

Each day is a challenge without the Lord in my life. God gave me the gift of choice so with each day I stay focused through reading Scripture, meditation and prayer. God gives me one promise; He is my Father and I His child therefore I will never be alone.
Thank you Gail, once again you have given me that ‘food for thought’ thought. God bless.

Blessings to all! Angela, may Jesus especially encourage your heart and strengthen your faith as your husband is deployed again!

This devotional is VERY precious and can definitely speak to us ALL. May Jesus have His way! Oh, Lord God and Father, help us, Your children. We want to honor you by faith and trust and belief. Help our weakness and keep our eyes fixed on YOU! In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!

thanks gail… your article has given me new confidence in the extremely difficult times my husband and i going thru… That GOD IS ABLE… and that nothing is impossible for him… we got cheated of all the business and have a deadline which is closing in on us to pay up the bank..and all this for no fault of us.. except for being foolish in trusting a friend.. But one thing i know GOD IS ABLE , MORE THAN ABLE.. and He makes all things beautiful in His time… GOD Bless you and do keep us in prayer, we are desperate..

I have been facing to know that I can make anything happen in my life that is right in God’s eye’s but sometimes I have these fears of trying to overcome something that I want to achieve.Like I want to finally make it a goal to get my driver license and not to have fear of anything in my life. But Jesus Christ.I also, feel like the holy spirit has to guide my life in anything that I feel I want to make happen for myself…In Jesus name.Amen

To Amber…even IF the LORD DOESN’T bring you and that person back with a “fresh start”…you win either way. The LORD bless you with His Peace.

  • Trisha says:

For me, it’s about lifting my hands in surrender every morning before getting out of bed. Jesus then has the permission to do through me whatever He wants for each new day. i know He knows my shakiness at times yet He still loves and accepts me. The shakiness is getting less as i grow stronger in His promises and stop insulting Him with the worrying! He tells His followers to “take no thought for your life.” This is very hard to do yet very possible as we grow in the faith and trust.

“God Is Able”. Those simple words are so powerful. I am going to post this as Gayle suggests as a reminder. A Happy and Healthy New Year to all. Prayers for everyone’s situation.

  • Karon says:

Too many times I forget to just let go and let GOD, I know in my heart he is always with me, and yet I give things to him to help with and then take them back before he is finished!!!
My New Years inspiration is to know that he is able and will direct me when I let him!!!
This quote today came as a reminder for me to know…. that I am one with him and all is well if I keep my faith and BELIEVE. AMEN

I made a mistake and kept it a secret for the past 4 months. I confessed my secret which in return crushed the person whom I love and want to spend the rest of my life with. I hit rock bottom about 3 weeks ago after realizing how much i’ve hurt him, and thinking about the possibility that i’ve lost him. I did alot of self reflecting and realized I wasn’t on the right path in my life. I read “Fresh Start”, awesome book! Currently reading “Purpose Driven Life”. Turning my life over to God, as I realized I had hit rock bottom and questioned my purpose in life… These past three weeks have been scary yet exciting, as I’m learning alot about my inner self. I pray that God continues to reveal HIS WILL to me. I’m scared… however i’m trying to keep faith & hope that GOD’S WILL, will bring the person I love and I back together with a “Fresh Start”…i’m trying to give him his space to heal… I pray God comforts him as well…

I love Gail Rodgers devotionals, seems to hit right at things that are going on in my life, my son and daughter in law have 4 children and my daughter in law lost her job. It takes two people to provide these days unless you are wealthy which they are not and have always had financial problems.. This devotional made me think, because I have been critical, but I know God is able. HE will take care of things and I need to just love them and let God take care of the rest.. Thank you Gail for another great devotional.

Right now all I can do is “hold on.” Every part of my life has been touched and is out of my control. This is good b/c I can’t manage my life, but my life is in turmoil and I’m full of fear. It’s gonna have to be God who takes over and changes me from the inside out. I pray this for each of us each day, and thank you for this encouragement!

  • Angela says:

this hit me right between the eyes but my situation being my husband of 23 yrs deploying (again!) for 6 mo. to a yr….and i truly felt like “i just need to survive this one more time or I hope I can get thru this”…..this devotion can fit anyone of our situations~

  • Jamie says:

Focusing on GOD changes my attitude about how life’s problems are affecting my life. Knowing GOD through this past year has made all the difference opening my heart to HIS will has opened doors for new chances to see HIS glory shine. As the angel told Sarah “What is to hard for GOD.” May all praise be given to GOD. What I want this year is a closer walk with HIM. May GOD’s blessing be on each of you this year.

  • Rosellie Stucky says:

Thank you for this encouraging message. May God continue to bless your work in 2010.

  • La says:

Shakey at times, but when I’m in the Word, it brings me closer to Christ and then I feel the calmness of the Holy Spirit. He comforts and gives me peace while times are difficult and challenging. Thank you for this reminder that God is able, and there is nothing too big, and His arm is never too short. ~ Amen
