“You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first” (Revelations 4, 5).

Part of the revelation of Jesus Christ that John received was letters to seven churches in Asia.  Each one addressed the issues that church was facing.  While we wait for Jesus’ return, we need to heed the instructions given to the churches.  Every letter contains a message for us today.

In the letter to the church in Ephesus (Revelation 2:1-7) we read about a group of believers who worked hard for the cause of the gospel. They didn’t tolerate evil, kept heresy from invading the church and persevered through hardship without giving up their faith. In spite of all these good things, they were given a severe warning because they had forgotten to love.

They were doing all the right things, but had forgotten the reason they were doing them.

It was God’s love demonstrated through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross which had first drawn them to the gospel. That love had poured into their lives and overflowed to everyone around them. Love had prompted them to do good deeds, to study the truth and to persevere regardless of what others did to them.  The message to them and the message to us is this: Remember love.

Remember the love that filled your heart when you first accepted the truth. Remember the love that overflowed from you when you realized how much you had been forgiven. Remember the love that God put in your heart for all those around you who didn’t know Jesus the way you did.  Remember and do again the things you did at first – because of love.

Father God, may I heed this warning. Forgive me for going through the motions of faith without really loving those around me. Help me to remember Your love and love like You do.

Questions: Why do we forget love? How do we begin again to do things out of love?

most times people forget about love because they feel that the people they show love to or help trn out to be the ones that disappoint them most, but we need the unconditional love of God kowning that it is only God that rewards.

I think we forget about love because we are all flesh. And we all fall short but we need to get closer to God and ask for His help always to remember to love like He does

I need this in my life today. It’s the very things I have been thinking of and knwowing I need to return to. JESUS is my first love and He saved me by His grace almost 22 years ago now. We are all inclined to wander and to have our love grow cold. Oh Father, help us PLEASE! Keep us and change us and work Your will in our lives! Help us to LOVE You and to LIVE in YOUR LOVE!
