“Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long” (Psalm 25:4,5).
How can we find a sure path in an uncertain future? David gives us some hints in Psalm 25.
1. “Guide me in your truth”– We need to look at the map God has given: His written word in the Bible. One dark, rainy night my sister was taking me to the airport, but first, she studied a map. “I’ve heard of a quicker way to get to the airport,” she said. “But I want to be sure.”
2. “Teach me your paths”– We need to be teachable, willing to obey God’s directions. Have you ever been in the car with a driver who disregarded instructions and maps because he thought he knew the way–and kept getting lost? We can behave like that with God’s directions–to our detriment. “He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way” (Psalm 25:9).
3. “You are God my Savior”-- We need to focus on God, our Pilot. He knows the way. He’s been there before. I must admit that I was praying for divine guidance for my sister as she was navigating a new route. She got me to the airport on time!
But in life, we sometimes make a wrong turn. David wants us to know that it’s not the end of the world. He is God, our Savior, the one who forgives mistakes and gives second chances.
4. “My hope is in you all day long.” We need to live one day at a time. Our hope is in God, not ourselves. Our hope is in God, not other people. Our hope is in God, not governments. God is over all of these for He is sovereign. What’s more, he’s a kind Sovereign who’s interested in our welfare: “all the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful” (Psalm 25:10).
Make this a daily prayer: Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
Questions: How do you find a sure path in an uncertain future? When you make a “mistake” how can you continue on without feeling a defeated?

focus, focus on Jesus Christ. when i make a mistake? i’m not perfect therefore i make mistakes! and as i’m not perfect and a sinner to boot, the chances that the remainder of my days will be scattered with mistakes. but the wonder of mistakes bring experience and with experience does come the wisdom. But I know I can’t do it alone, I tried, i tried the wide path, the path of un’sureness and i know where i ended up. i live one day at a time and each morn’ when i wake, i give thanks to God for His grace, pray that He and I hang out together in all activities through out the day and when laying my head down at night, i’m in awe that my Father loves me this much. Defeated? Overwhelmed !
always look to God
Helen, this was a wonderful devotional. It was clearly presented and so easily understood. Through it, I was reminded once again to “lean not unto mine own understanding; but ask Him to lead and direct my every decision and path.”
Like Cathy, I am so glad to have that ultimate GPS!
God bless you all!
In this uncertain world, I wake up everyday asking God to lead me and guide me every step of my day, I ask Him to guard my mouth and my mind. I constantly say to myself that “its not about me” eveything I do is about Him and He is to get the glory for all that I do.
thanks
Great entry, Helen. Thank you. Clear vivid examples of how the Lord is our ultimate GPS-
