Valentines From Heaven

Valentine’s Day can be hard if you feel like you’re on the outside looking in. As Christians, we know we are loved, we’re loved even more than we can understand but it can be easy to lose sight of that in a flood of pink and red candy hearts.

In her article, “Does God Send Valentines?” author Shirley Vogel says:

“Some of us won’t receive the valentines we desperately want this year, but our Heavenly Father never forgets who we are! He created each of us, loves us more than we can ever understand…And because He loves us, He wants to communicate with us.”

It’s the last part of her sentence that really caught my attention, “because He loves us, He wants to communicate with us.” God is not sitting silently up in Heaven vaguely remembering that we’re down here somewhere.  He is actively, closely and passionately involved in my life and in yours.  He shouts from Heaven “I LOVE YOU” he whispers in quiet place “I love you” and every act of His hand repeats the chorus “I love you I love you I love you.”

This Valentines’ Day, don’t forget to open your card. Take some time to read God’s words of love to you:

Deut 7:7(The Message):

“God wasn’t attracted to you and didn’t choose you because you were big and important—the fact is, there was almost nothing to you. He did it out of sheer love, keeping the promise he made to your ancestors.”

Jeremiah 31:3 (The Message):

“God told them, ‘I’ve never quit loving you and never will.  Expect love, love, and more love!’”

John 15:9 (the Message):

“I’ve loved you the way my Father has loved me. Make yourselves at home in my love. If you keep my commands, you’ll remain intimately at home in my love. That’s what I’ve done—kept my Father’s commands and made myself at home in his love.”

Romans 5:5 (NIV):

“And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.”

God has a Valentine for each of us.  I don’t know if He’ll send flowers or candy hearts too, but you never know. He just might surprise you.Has God shown His love for you in a practical way? Have you heard him whispering His love? We’d love to hear your stories in the comments.  If you need someone to talk to or would like us to pray for you, mentoring is always available.  You can use this form to contact a mentor.
