“This do in remembrance of Me.” (1 Corinthians 11:24)
Christians will sometimes forget Christ! There would be no need for Paul’s loving caution if there were not a fearful supposition that our memories might prove treacherous. This is not merely conjecture, because it is sadly too well confirmed in our experience. Forgetting Christ is not just a possibility, but a lamentable fact.
It would seem almost impossible that those who have been redeemed by the blood of the dying Lamb, and loved with an everlasting love by the eternal Son of God, could forget our gracious Savior. But, if startling to the ear, it is, too apparent to the eye to allow us to deny the crime.
Forget Him who never forgot us?
Forget Him who poured His blood forth for our sins?
Forget Him who loved us even to the death?
Can it be possible? Yes, it is not only possible, but conscience confesses that it is too sadly a fault with all of us, that we suffer Him to be as a traveling man, stopping over only for a night. The one we should make the abiding tenant of our memories is instead merely a visitor. The cross, where our memories should linger, is desecrated by the feet of forgetfulness.
Doesn’t your conscience say that this is true? Do you not find yourself forgetful of Jesus? Temptations steal away your heart, and you are unmindful of Him upon whom your affection ought to be set. Earthly business engrosses your attention when you should fix your eye steadily upon the cross. It is the incessant turmoil of the world, the constant attraction of earthly things which distracts us from Christ.
Let us firmly resolve to not forget Jesus our Beloved in our hearts, and, whatever else we let slip, let us hold fast to Him.
Question: What are some of life’s distractions that cause us to “forget” Jesus, if only briefly?
About the Author: Charles Spurgeon

Gotta love Charles Spugeon! How right he is. Every time we look towards sin, we forget Jesus. This is not just when we are living as the world might, or not regularly thinking of our Lord, but as we turn away from Christ, and toward sin, we forget Christ. If we only would turn, or walk away from sin, and speak the Name aloud in a small prayer, our battle with sin will be much more victorious. The more we call upon the name of our Lord, the more He runs to us and the closer we will be to Him. “Father, help us, help me, to turn to You more each time sin entises me to forget You. In Jesus name and for Your glory, Amen.
am an adult convert to the Roman catholic Church and I truly love this article the whole world as my experience as a christian within the organized church with the exception of maybe 3 very personal experiences has forgotten what Jesus christ taught us how to live and that is the biggest crime and coverup of all human history and we all stand in need of His forgiveness, when will we stop hiding and going in the wrong direction which is our own way and do it JESUS CHRIST WAY it’s been there for 2000 years 1 man/God and that is all there was and is needed. HE is the way,the truth and the life! there is no other way o the Father but through and by and in Him ! Praise God The Holy Spirit and the workers who recorded the Holy Scriptures let’s all do as The Master taught us and have faith like a child and depend on Our Heavenly Father for everything just as Jesus Christ taught us for if God takes care of the sparrow and the meadow flower surely He will provide fo us His beloved children!!!!!!!!
