“We have thought on your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of your temple” (Psalm 46:9, NIV).

This Psalm starts out with the familiar verse – “God is our refuge and our strength and very present help in trouble.” (vs. 1)  Later on, it includes another familiar verse, “Be still and know that I am God.” (vs. 10)  The Psalmist tells us not to fear even if the mountains be moved into the sea.

If you have dedicated your life to Christ and have received the Holy Spirit, you are now a temple in which God dwells. He will never leave you. In His steadfast love He remains always with you in good times and in the bad.   It is up to us to acknowledge His presence in our lives and to turn to him for strength and comfort.  He is always just a breath away, there in the midst of your life, your soul and your body whether you realize it or not.

Pretty daunting thought, isn’t it? Yet it is as warm and comforting as a fluffy towel straight out of the dryer.  A missionary once told me to lay my hand very close to my cheek and feel the warmth. That was how near God is always to me, even if I do not feel Him to be near me at the moment.

The next time you pray, try that and feel His presence. You have to be still, but you will feel Him there in the midst of you – your life, your troubles and your joy.  He is steadfast and loving you as His child now and forever more, no matter what you are going through today, or tomorrow.

Question: When was the last time you felt God extra close to you? Do you feel that way now? Tell us about it.

I just this morning was trying to spend some time in prayer and felt as though I couldn’t reach the Lord. It was like I was praying into thin air. My head and my heart know better, but my feelings continued. This devotion reassures me that God is paying attention to where I’m at — especially because the timing of it is so precise. God is good — and faithful. And NEAR.

I love the daily devotions. They minister to me always.

Just recently I had to go to court with my daughter’s father. It has been a horrible situation for the past year and it was time to ask the judge for some help. Unfortunately, my 13 year old daughter had to testify. That was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make for the both of us. The judge told all of us to leave and spoke to her alone with the attorneys. During that time, I prayed for God to give her the strength to tell her story over and over again. I had already decided that I would pray her through it and not stop until I saw her again. After about 20 minutes, I felt an overwhelming sense of peace. I walked over to my husband and mother and told them “She’s okay, God’s got it.” When she finally came out, it was obvious she had been crying, but she had a smile on her face. She told me ” Ya, know mom, at first I couldn’t stop crying , but all of sudden I could feel, I would be okay and then I started to tell the judge everything I need to.” The judge concluded that there needed to be some major changes made for her and made the necessary decisions to make that happen for her. I have learned recently, even in the good times and bad we must praise Him. My favorite verse for this week is, “All things work together for good.” Romans 8:28 It doesn’t say some things, it says all things. That mean happy or sad, good or bad, God knows what you need and he will provide it. That doen’t mean it will be easy for us, it just means we will overcome our fears through our God. Throughout this craziness that my daughter has been exposed to, from both her father and myself, she has learned to trust in God like never before. This weekend she will baptized. How exciting!!! Talk about feeling God’s presence.
