Easter? What is that?

Written by Darren Hewer

Jesus left them again and prayed the same prayer as before. When he returned to them again, he found them sleeping, for they couldn’t keep their eyes open. And they didn’t know what to say. Mark 14:38-39, NLT

Easter is quickly approaching! But do your friends and neighbors know what Easter is really about?

A recent Barna survey found that “most Americans described Easter as a religious celebration. Two out of every three Americans (67%) mention some type of theistic religious element.” However, few know the meaning of Easter, with the survey also finding “a minority of adults [42%] directly linked Easter to the Christian faith’s belief in the resurrection of Christ.”

There are many resources available on PowertoChange.com intended for non-Christians to learn more about Jesus. Don’t be found sleeping during the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. Consider sharing one of these resources with a friend!

One that is explicitly related to Easter is The Easter Story, which is mostly comprised of the text from Mark’s gospel. It would be a great link to send to a friend this Easter. For more philosophically or skeptically minded friends, Dr William Lane Craig has a series of articles titled The Bodily Resurrection of Jesus: Compelling Evidence. Finally, we have a resource page with many links to other information about Jesus: Jesus Christ: Who is He?

Even in America, known as being a highly religious “Christian nation”, the survey noted that only “2% said that they would describe Easter as the most important holiday of their faith.” Can we seek this year to change that figure? To make Easter more than an afterthought about rabbits and painted eggs? Share a resource with a friend this Easter and possibly change their life forever!

religion is the reason why people are stupid. To bad most of you need to believe in a dead jew zombie to live your life.

This is quite alarming, considering that another survey says that 82% of Americans identify with the Christian faith. If these numbers and the numbers in this article are true, something is CLEARLY wrong.
