Enter into Green Pastures

Written by Emmie Stanley

Do you have unrealistic expectations in life? Can we pray for you?

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul” (Psalm 23:4, NKJV).

Oh how those words pour down into my soul like a cup of fresh cool water on a hot day. Sometimes we feel like sheep that are being preyed upon by dangerous animals.  We can feel so defenseless in all the chaos and upheaval of the world around us, as well as in our own personal challenges. We can even allow ourselves to be harassed by things that are only real in our own imagination, things we see coming in the near future that cause us to be fretful about what “might” happen. The bible calls that worry, fear, and anxiety.

When I find myself in that place, I sense His sweet Spirit ask me the question “Can you just do today?”

Our Father has promised to give us what we need for each day and He tells us to live one day at a time. Then we just respond to what He puts in front of us for today. He has promised to meet our every need and He will do so faithfully. As we fix our eyes on His goodness and mercy we will experience green pastures and still waters in the midst of all that each day brings.

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Matthew 6:34, NKJV).

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” (Matthew 6:25-26 NKJV)

Questions: Why are we so prone to worry and feel anxious about tomorrow?

  • I know our Heavenly Father watches over us and takes wonderful care 0f us, so why am I still fretting over things I have no control? I wish I could but it is really hard.

thank you so much for the devotionals. The Lord has been using them each day to impact something new in my life.I also share with my little group of women, and each of them have confessed that they have wonderfully been blessed by the devotionals.

B.C. (before Christ in my life), I honed the art of worry, of anxiousness. I literally wore the crown. I had control(or so I thought) of my life.
A.S. (after salvation), I let go and let God.

“Can you just do today?” Such a great reminder for me. I worry more than i should. Just come by it naturally, I suppose. My father always worries.
I think it will help me to remember: Just do today. I can handle that.
