“Now it shall come about when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. It shall be with him and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, by carefully observing all the words of this law and these statutes, that his heart may not be lifted up above his countrymen and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or the left, so that he and his sons may continue long in his kingdom in the midst of Israel” (Deuteronomy 17:14-20).
As Christians, we have a responsibility to pray for those in authority – fathers, pastors, and all kinds of leaders. However, we must say more than “God, please bless the President” or “Lord, help the pastor to preach a good sermon.” In order to pray effectively for the President, we must pray specifically, namely, that he will …
1. Realize his personal sinfulness and daily need of God’s cleansing power.
2. Recognize his personal inadequacy for the task and therefore depend upon the Lord.
3. Reject all counsel that violates spiritual principles and then trust God to validate him.
4. Resist pressure from individuals or special interest groups that would have him act in violation of his conscience.
5. Work at reversing our country’s trends toward socialism and humanism, both of which dethrone the Lord and deify man.
6. Be ready to forsake his political career and personal ambition for the best interest of the nation.
7. Rely upon the Word of God as his source of strength and key to success.
8. Be used to bring dignity, honor, trustworthiness, and righteousness to the office of the presidency.
9. Be a good example to the fathers and sons of the nation.
10. Be reminded daily that he is accountable to Almighty God for his attitudes, actions, and motivations while serving in office.
Question: How can you pray for the leaders in your own government?

Could #5 be explained in more of a ‘layman’s terms. Forgive my ignorance.
I agree with Sheryl.. that is just ridiculous. I am a Christian woman and I thank God that Obama is our President. Being Christian should not equal hating Obama.
Well the christian movement has really taken a hit due to their hatred toward Obama. I have never seen so many devils come to light since his elections.
I was with you until #5. I’m tempted to remove my name from this list serve – socialism, really?
I do need to pray for our President more. I pray that He has an intimate relationship with God, that his relationship with God is one that pleases God. That the President will make choices that will fulfill his desiny in Christ and that he will be the Priest of his house. I pray that GOd will give him wisdom and revelation and that he will walk in the freedom that God wants so much for him to have. And I pray this for all the leaders in government, schools, communities and churches across America and around the world. May we all become what GOd created us to be.
~ Personally, I am reminded to pray every time I am at an event, whether it is a sporting event, or a graduation ceremony, or a classroom in reciting the Pledge of Alegence, or singing The National Anthem, or America the Beautiful…, It never fails to bring tears to my eyes every single time, b/c I then am ‘taken away’ to my own place in prayer. Even tho there may be thousands of ppl around me, I pray deeply for our President and for our troops. I pray for them every time I think of them, or if I see them on t.v. on a news clip, or a press conference I’m reminded to pray for them. ~ I get discouraged when I hear some of the News programs/ radio or t.v. or e-mails… and the opinions out there. ~ I’m a proud Republican, but I want our President to FINISH WELL… If he finishes well, then all Americans will as well. So may God bless our troops, and God bless those who have died for our country today… Memorial Day. And may God Bless our President and guide him. Amen.
