“God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of that fact” (Acts 2:32).

“You killed the author of life, but God raised Him from the dead. We are witnesses of this” (Acts 3:15).

The fact that God raised Jesus from the dead is the cornerstone of our faith and the key point of the apostles’ message throughout the book of Acts, the story of the early church.

Why is Jesus’ resurrection so important? What exactly does it mean?

First we must consider our condition; then we can understand what God has done by raising Jesus from the dead.

Our condition:

•    “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God” (Romans 3:10, 11).
•    “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
•    “man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).

God’s provision:

•    “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ” (Acts 2:36).
•    “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
•    “All the prophets testify about Him that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name” (Acts 10:43).

The simple truth is that we are in need of a Savior and God alone has provided a way for our sins to be forgiven.

“But the One whom God raised from the dead did not see decay. Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you” (Acts 13:37, 38).

Thank you, our great and awesome God, for raising Jesus from the dead so that through Him I can be forgiven.

Questions: What does the forgiveness of sins mean to you? Why is it important to remind each other of this great truth?

Forgiveness means to start over with a clean slate with God. He forgivs us of our sins and doesnt remember them anymore (no condemnation). It’s so important for us to forgive others. When we hold a grudge against someone we are only harming ourselves. We keep all that anger pent up inside of us and it eats away at us like cancer, causing harm to our bodies and mind. It’s so better to free ourselves and pray for those that have hurt us. the Bible says “not to let the sun go down on our wrath”. It has taken me sometime to realize this, and it is a daily process, but we have to Love EVERYBODY in order to make it into heaven, and that is my goal.

Risa, I would encourage him to read “The Grip of Grace” by Max Lucado and at the same time read the book of Romans from the Bible. Hopefully that will help him see that God’s amazing grace is great enough to forgive all our sins and powerful enough to show us how to live in hope.

To answer your question. Gods forgiveness of my sins changed my life around, after a long time of torture and heartache and guilt, i was able to witness Gods Grace and forgiveness and have been able to build a new life without guilt and have been able to forgive myself and others now. It is important to be reminded of this truth as in my experience the guilt of your sins will kill you emotionally and mentally, but to remind yourself that god forgives and he does restore is the most beautiful gift I have received and has kept me from falling back into sin.

Hi. Just a request having read this, that something more extensive would be available. My grandson who’s 17 believes in God and our enemy, but also believe He’s dead and is full of confusion. If there is something more out there I can use to help him see this is something he can think about and look into, please share more here.

    Thank you so much.
