“Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon’s, greatly amazed. So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: ‘Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong’” (Acts 3:11-12 & 16, NKJV).
I find it very interesting how Peter had to convince the people that the man’s healing had nothing to do with any power or godliness that was either his or John’s, but he points all the glory to the name of Jesus. It made me think about how often I am praying and wonder, do I have “the gifting” to expect an answer to this kind of a need?

Do I have the faith that this prayer will be answered? Am I currently filled with the Holy Spirit and is my life right before God? To be sure these are all important questions, but the real issue is that the power is all in the name of Jesus!
The questions I need to ask when I am praying is, are my eyes on myself and my faith in my current spiritual state, or is my faith squarely in Jesus powerful and unfailing name? When my faith is in His name alone, all the variables are taken away.
If I am looking at my own condition I will find reasons to doubt that my prayer will be answered every time. But when I look to Jesus name, I am reminded that He has applied His righteousness to my life. When I focus on all He has done, I can expect answers to my prayers, even in all my imperfection.
“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth” (Philippians 2:9-10, NKJV).
Questions: When you pray is your faith in yourself and your spiritual situation or is it placed squarely on Jesus Christ?

I am not being bold but my Daddy is very important to me as He created me in my mom’s womb even though I do not know her as Iwas adopted by a very loving couple. They are in heaven now but God is my parent full time and when I pray I believe that I live in His Spirit.
Thank you so much for this devotional. This is something I struggle with until it feels like I have turned myself inside and out. I simply cannot imagine how I can be forgiven for my sins. I know He is Lord and God and has given the great sacrifice that we might have life. I am limited by my small human mind, and since I cannot forgive myself it is hard to see how the perfect and sinless Lord would. This has made me consider the name of Jesus and how I should think more about focusing on His grace. Thanks so much for this.
