Good News: Forgiveness

Written by Suzanne Benner

Do you regret having an abortion?  This Study tells us how forgiveness sets us free

“We tell you the good news: What God promised our fathers He has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus” (Acts 13:32).

God promised to send the Messiah, the Deliverer. That promise was fulfilled in Jesus.

“Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through Him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses” (Acts 13:38, 39).

For whom is this forgiveness? For everyone who believes!

It’s easy to understand why it’s called “good news,” when we discover the content of the message.

What could be better news than forgiveness? To realize that by believing in Jesus, we are justified before God?

When we honestly examine our hearts, we recognize the truth that we will never be justified by following the rules – sooner or later we inevitably mess up. We need forgiveness.

Accepting the pardon that Jesus provides means:

The shameful deeds of the past no longer determine our future.

Bitterness, envy, fear and pride no longer hold us prisoner.

Unintentional mistakes, as well as willful rebellion are no longer held against us.

We are forgiven. Free from blame or guilt. Made righteous before God. This is the good news which we believe.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the good news of forgiveness. Show me how to live the truth of forgiveness and to share it with everyone around me.

Questions: How has God’s forgiveness changed your life? How can knowing God has forgiven you help you to forgive others?

I had done the worse thing possible, I abused because I was abused. The abuse I speak of is the greatest gift from God—-love. I said ‘had’ abused it. Past tense. History. Yesterday’s news. I was lost only to be found in the loving arms of our Father. He assured me that ‘beating myself’ up was no longer something I needed to deal with. The day God and I were re-acquainted changed everything. The self abuse, long gone. God’s forgiveness changed my life..to the polar opposite He has changed it. Forgiving someone is not an easy thing to accomplish. But once you feel God’s grace and mercy within, the peace is overwhelming and forgiving others is a given, not a must.

Oh Jennifer, if I could hug you all personally, I would. What good news of God redeeming your marriage! How you remained faithful is an encouragement to me.

Years ago, my husband walked away from the marriage. Being unable to forgive, I realised that I became a prisoner of unforgiveness. Having heard the message of what Christ had done on the cross, I asked God to forgive me and helped me to forgive my husband. I felt I was set free! As for the relationship, I just did not do anything. But I started praying for my husband. We did not communicate. However, my kids communicated with him.

Within the year, circumstances happened. I went for an operation. When my husband came to visit me after I was discharged from hospital, I said to him “I forgive you”. Both of us were shocked at such an utterance. (I believed God helped me to say it. I had not planned to say it.) The next day, I said to him ” Can you please forgive me? “. He just planted a kiss and left. He just came to see me and the kids and left quickly.

More than 3 months later, my husband moved into the family home (He had been absent for 5 and half years). We went to Batam to have our honeymoon. About 2 years later, he accepted the Lord Jesus as his savior at the marriage growth seminar.

All glory to God for salvaging my marriage and helping me to see that we both have a part to make our marriage work.

God’s forgiveness GIVES me Life. There is LIFE IN THE BLOOD, only of Christ. The recorded history of the Nation of Israel includes the Word of God to Israel’s leadership to lead the people regarding THE BLOOD (deliverance/fellowship); and then history brings us to the pivotal moment of Christ yielding up His sinless Blood to His Father’s Will for the salvation of “all who would come to Him” by faith in this shed blood. Today, we have the ministry of the Holy Spirit regarding The Blood …. yes, ’tis a bloody “religion” …. precious and life-saving life-giving to all who believe. If I am to know the Peace of God which passes all understanding, I cannot but forgive …. and really, why carry around (occupying your mind and heart and actions) the burden of unforgiveness/guilt at not obeying the Word of God re. forgiveness …. this burden mars yourself and your life daily – hinders your open face-to-face ministry. “Make me a blessing, to someone today”.
