Psalm 27:8 “My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek.”

I love this particular phrase from the Bible. It is so visual. It describes an intimate moment with a personal God as if God himself tilts our face toward his, just in time to catch the twinkle of approval in his eyes.

But seeking His face is not a onetime occurrence. It is much more than a fading moment. It is a way of life, an ongoing journey, and the defining characteristic of who we are as Christians.

To seek His face is to seek His grace. To seek His face is to seek His will. To seek His face, we must trust Him to direct our paths, just as He promised to do. To seek His face requires us to be watching. Always. To seek His face is to rise above our circumstances and challenges, redirecting our focus away from ourselves and upward to His ability to handle our struggles in a way that glorifies Him in the end.

To seek His face, we must become like a young child, riding a bike for the first time and periodically checking back over our shoulder to make sure Daddy is still watching. We feel the need to keep him in our sight at all times. Like a toddler playing peek-a-boo with his father, we break into a fit of giggles each time our eyes meet.

True joy waits for those who learn to do this. To seek His face, we must constantly be looking upward, and there will be no mistaking the moments that God allows His face to shine on us.

Dear God,
Thank you for allowing us to seek your face, and for revealing your love for us in return. Our souls crave your approval; we long to make you proud. Make your face to shine on us, shielding us from the darkness that waits around hidden corners. With you, we can do anything. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Questions: What does the Bible mean when it talks about “seeking His face”? Why does this have to be done many times?

I find when I seek His face, I love more deeply. There is more joy in my life all around when I seek Christ. He puts it (life) in perspective. I liked the way someone said it’s a choice we have to seek His face. It’s a privilege. Nice devotional. ~ There is a stained glass picture of Jesus in our church above the choir loft. Every time I am in the sanctuary, I seek His face there; which brings new meaning and light to why I am there in church worshiping Him…., and tears always well up in my eyes.

God has been working on many aveneus in my life.
1-He wanted me to be stil and know He is my Father.
2-He want to make it more personal in the life he is giving me.
Now! He is wanting me to seek Him will all of me. I LOVE Him very much and have the opportunity to spend much time with Him.
To me seeking is to totally go to Him with my arms stretched out on the cross that He was nailed too. I LOVE Him sooo much.

Thank you very much for this devotional today. It is truly what I needed to read and meditate on. I seem to have a heavy heart today but this lifted me and put me back into reality with my Jesus. I needed to be reminded to take my eyes off of me and seek His face. Praise God for His love, understanding, and wisdom.

For me,seeking God’s face is to look up to Him as my all in all.It is surrendering to Him in all situations, relying in His directives no matter how dificult it is.It is just leaning on Him in every thing.
    A touching devotional.

  • Nancy says:

To “seek His face” for me is to recognize that “seeing Jesus” is not a given, but is a directive if I am to “know Him and the Power of His Resurrection” …. this “seeing Jesus” brings me to a response of either continuing to look fully upon Him, thereby seeing Him looking with redeeming love upon me, or to look away from Him …. ? do I accept what I see – Redeemer/Saviour (my greatest need)? All else apart from Christ does not “see Jesus” with a response to continue with Him; it is for me to decide – here and there – to follow Him. “Choose you this day whom you will serve …”. What joy in Him !
