When Erwin McManus was speaking at the Power to Change staff conference, he suggested that this question would be a way to help a person begin to question their current view of God and life. It’s a question that any honest person, even if they are openly hostile to the idea of God, would need to answer “yes” … it’s at least possible that God has been at work in their life all along.

This quote has become the opening question my church has been using to talk to people about our upcoming evangelistic outreach program: Is it possible that God has been at work in your life all along? We sometimes cultivate the notion that God hasn’t been at work in a person’s life until the moment we begin talking with them about faith, but that isn’t true … they likely just haven’t realized how God has been working.

Not everyone you know is ready for an in-person evangelistic program, but likely everyone you know has soul cravings. Intimacy. Destiny. Meaning. These are inner cravings that everyone has, but cannot ultimately be fulfilled with the stuff of this world. The fact that everyone has these cravings makes this a non-offensive way to help people begin to think about the deeper questions of life that find their answers in the God who created them to have these cravings in the first place.

In the upcoming weeks, Power to Change will feature these themes in a series of special online chat sessions. If you have been discussing Soul Cravings with a friend (using the Soul Cravings Prequel or another resource) or just know someone who would be open to talking, please consider inviting them to our online chat sessions. I know that God has been working in my life even prior to my knowing Him! I’m actually working on a project right now related to that very thing :)
