Are you searching for a source of peace? We are here to listen.
“I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord’” (Psalm 122:1)!
Do you feel that way on Sundays? I have to admit, there are days I really don’t. The sloth in me moans to lay back, snuggle into another cup of coffee and veg out on an old movie on TV instead. Getting up, getting dressed, getting going is a hassle. Now maybe if they allowed us to come to church in our PJ’s . . . no, cancel that thought.
The thing is, I always feel better when I go to church. It is good to see the friendly faces and get the warm hugs. It is reviving to be with people who care about me and each other. I feel a sense of belonging. The worship music and the Bible passages boost me, pumping into me life like a transfusion. My faith seems less anemic. And sure enough, I learn a lesson or get an answer to a prayer or end up being someone else’s answer.
I know people say they do not have to go to church to be a Christian. But the cross has two planes – vertical between God and man, and horizontal between each other. Church gives us a sense of community. We feel stronger when we are together as a group than if we are standing alone and battling the temptations that bombard us daily. Church bonds us together in a common twofold cause – loving Christ and loving our neighbor. Like a chain-linked fence, when we are intertwined in each other’s lives, we are stronger.
A dear friend says she loves to come to church and see everyone in the pews. It is her check list, making sure all of her friends are okay, healthy and happy. She relates it to when she’d check on her teenage girls in the middle of the night. Yes, they were home and safe. All is well.
Growing up, we all knew the house on the block where we were welcome. It was the house of a widow. She’d let us romp in her big yard; she’d play the piano for us, and always had fresh, just out of the oven cookies and ice cold milk on her kitchen table.
When I had my own son, I strove to make our house that inviting. One day, I overheard some kids talking as I waited to pick him up from school. “Let’s go to his house, his mom is cool.” “Yeah, we can have fun there.” Another piped up, “Mom always let me go over there. She says she never worries about me when I am there.” They were my son’s friends and later that day when they rang the doorbell, my heart warmed.
Church is that for me. I hope you find one that is that way for you. A place where you can feel safe and loved and have some fun. I hope when you are with your friends you say “Let’s go to His house.”
Question: How do you feel about the church you attend? Are you attending a church? If not, why not?

This devotional hits a tender spot. The church I am affiliated with is Anglican. I was married there 22 years ago, my two (now adult) children were baptized as I was as well,My husband, children and mother in law attended on Sundays. I, unfortunately, worked weekends with the hubby working full time through the week. Until over 3 years ago, God was not a part of my life. As He now is my life, the church that I am affiliated with, I only go to once in awhile. I know that its not what the church can do for me but rather what I can do for the church. I don’t feel any connection with my church. When I go, of course, I enjoy the service because for the first time I am familiar with Scripture. But I don’t take my fellowship any further than that. I’m at a crossroads of sorts.
I LOVE to go to my house of prayer with my Lord. I look forward to meeting my family there. It makes all the world for when I leave the wordly things and go to His House of prayer.
I love going to our church. As well as the folk loving one another, praying for each other and giving practical help to those in the church and outside, we get good teaching from the Bible. Unfortunately, there are many churches that are not based on God’s infallible Word and the Lord Jesus Christ. Some churches seek to entertain the people rather than provide good teaching. My husband and I are blessed to belong to such a church. I pray that all of you dear ladies can find such a church.

I agree! It’s hard for me to want to get up early & go to church on Sunday, especially when I get up early during the week for work. That’s why I’m glad our church also offers Sat evening services-it’s a great option. Where ever you attend though, God bless you for going! If you’re not going, ask yourself “why?” and then just go. You’ll be glad you did-God’s message will make it worth your while!
Thanks for thos devotional. This is actually what I am
struggling with right now. I do pray I can find a solid church
with a solid community.
I enjoy going to church…for many years I battled with just trying to make it into church because of a terribe social phobia disorder…many times i couldn’t make it through the front doors of the church and ended up sitting in the parking lot while others went in for service just fine and dandy and I remained paralyzed in my car due to the fear of public places and my looks….however, the LORD has been good to me…He delivered me from that bondage and I am able to attend church now on a weekly basis and then some…how awsome is that…one should never take for granted the privlages one has even if it is a simple as being able to attend church…so many peolpe in this world are housebound and immoble and would love to be in our “shoes”…as we enter into the house of the LORD.
The church that I attend is great for they hold two services on Saturday and two services on Sunday and it is so nice to beable to have a choice of attending either day…been going to the Saturday service these pass few weeks and have been loving it…broke me from the same old SUNDAY routine.
Hope each and everyone of you lovely ladies finds the perfect “HOUSE OF THE LORD” that you can connect, serve and GROW with.
