How to Trust God #4

Do you feel isolated and anxious? Talk to us.

Join us for our Daily Devotional Chat today in our Women’s Chatroom at 10:30 am EDT.

If you are walking in the dark today in your circumstances and wondering what God has in store for you, know that He has given specific instructions for you as you wait.  Trusting God is not easy to do when the pathway is obscured. God knows the tendency of our hearts is to fret. So He asks us to make a choice in the small things of every day.

Listen to His simple steps:

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

Let the Word of Christ dwell in your richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:15-17).

How do you let God’s peace rule your heart when worry wants to take the front seat?

Tell God you are making a choice today to allow His peace to invade the space where worry now lives. Ask Him to do it by His power. You can’t generate this peace in your heart, but you can declare your choice and allow the Holy Spirit to invade your heart and mind. And look for things to be thankful for.

How do you let God’s Word dwell in you richly?

Take time to let His verses of comfort and strength find a place to live in your heart. Write one out and tape it to your mirror or the dash of your car. Talk about His promises with other believers. Make a choice to turn to His Word when anxiety wants to overwhelm you. Dwell on His promises, don’t just read and run.  Look for things to be grateful for.

As you wait in God’s waiting room, do what is in front of you to the very best of your ability and do it for Jesus.

Waiting for God’s answer can sometimes leave us feeling in a place of limbo just waiting for the next step. Don’t waste this time or the opportunity to do wholeheartedly what is in front of you today. Ask for God’s help and even if it is not what you had hoped to be doing, do it well and with a willing and a thankful heart.

Did you notice that each of these three steps includes a thankful heart? God knows us so well and knows that thankfulness will change our countenance and our hearts. If you just can’t be thankful, ask God’s Holy Spirit to help you have a thankful heart. It will change your day today!

Dear Father God,
Thank you that You know me and understand my tendency to be fretful and worried right now. I ask for the power of Your Holy Spirit to invade my heart and mind today with Your peace and Your Word. I ask You to help me do what is in front of me today as an offering to You. Give me a grateful heart and change me as I wait for You to change my circumstances.
In Jesus’ strong name I pray, Amen.

Questions: How do you let God’s Word dwell in you richly? What can we do while we are waiting for God’s answer? Can you trust Him to answer?

i let His word dwell deeply within me by posting scriptures around the house. it’s amazing how my eyes will focus in on just the right one for a particular circumstance. i have also discovered our will has no feelings so i simply will God’s will and go directly to a place of peace and rest. it’s not that i don’t acknowledge the feeling, i do and then go directly to God’s will for me and the feeling is than under that subjection. i don’t worry about anything anymore.

Thank you for these encouragement words and always seems to be timely as I want to reach those who don’t know Jesus with tea and devotion and wonder if I can or if God wants me to do this as I have setbacks and wonder where I will get the funds to do it. Praying that others will truly see where my heart is and know I love Jesus and feel led to do. Praying I will rest in Him but continue to reach others while God works.

Thank you for the devotional ! It has added on to what I read in my own devotional. 1 Peter 3:14,15 Do not fear what they fear; dont be frigthened.l But in your heats set apart Christ as Lord.! When God is at the centre of your heart and is in command there as Lord where He can bring peace. Jesus said “do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid’ He knows that if your heart isn’t filled with Him it will fill up with fear instead!

I have just lived through an experience in the last year that made me TOTALLY rely on God…not my power, but in His. Being thankful is definately a conscious decision, that needs to be made daily, and sometimes several times a day, as our emotions are tossed around by a roaring lion waiting to devour our lives and the lives of our loved ones. Telling God you CHOOSE to trust and will wait for His answer, allows you to rely on Someone who knows best. Be couragious in your wait, for it too shall pass!

Thank-you Gail, this is just what I needed this morning.I`ve been alittle afraid of the directions & decisions that I`ve made.Thing is,I know that this is what God wants of me. He`s shown me the usual patterns I`ve make,& the upset it carrys, especially the people I`ve been drawen too;the ones who discourage me,belittle me,& keep me from being everything God wants me to be…so it has been hard sometimes to trust only in Him,but with His help even I`ve been amazed at the changes He`s made in my life!
Joanne,I`m so sorry for your circumstances,I have prayed for you & will put you in my prayer book,to pray for you daily for 30 days!,I would not say that I`m a great prayer warrior, but I do BELIEVE in a GREAT God.God bless you & your family

I have read so many of these daily messages, and this was by far the most meaningful. Thank you so much Gail for your insightful words of encouragement, Sometimes we really do need to be reminded to be grateful and thankful. And it really is difficult to feel like I have any kind of direction during those waiting periods, and these simple reminders of what I’m supposed to be doing is a real eye opener. God Bless!

Just wanted to let Gail know that this is really the piece of encouragement that I need today. My life right now seems very meaningless as I go through a separation and divorce. My heart is so anxious wondering will I be able to afford to live on my own with my two kids. But I will try to trust God that He knows what is in store for me. Thank you so much for this awesome website.
