“For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear” (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.) (Revelation 19:7, 8).

As the Christmas season approaches, with its special events and outings, perhaps you hear this refrain at your house, “I have nothing to wear!” Maybe you’ve said it yourself.  In contrast, it is wonderful to know that when we meet our Savior we will be perfectly dressed in fine linen that is radiantly white.

Consider what that certainty means for today.

We won’t be performing any righteous acts when we meet Jesus, our earthly lives will be over. Therefore, these righteous acts must be done now, while we’re living.

It is true that good deeds can never justify us or bring us to God, as the Bible clearly states: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Yet listen to what Paul says in the very next verse. “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). Can you catch a glimpse of what these verses are saying?  Righteous acts are given to us so that we have something to wear.  So, good deeds aren’t tally marks on an eternal scorecard, or a burdensome chore. They are gifts from God.

There is a righteous act waiting for you today, which God prepared ahead of time just for you. It isn’t something you have to do, but rather it is a beautiful gown which God holds for you to slide into.

Heavenly Father, thank you for promising to dress me in white. Help me to see righteous acts as gifts – wonderful opportunities – You have given me.  Amen.

Does this change your view of good deeds? What gift has God given you for today?

The gift that God has given me today is…to discard my poor attitude, to go out with a smile on my face and greet all those who may cross my path today with a kind and gentle voice. We must always remember to adorn ourselves properly from within…for that is most important to God…then be cheerful at bringing forth a good deed “gift” unto others…We can go about doing many so called rightous acts BUT if we have a rotten attitude within such is not that pleasing to God.

I am thankful that salvation is a gift that does not need to be return. I am thankful that salvation is a gift that is not determine by our works, but a gift from our heavenly Father. Thank you.
