The Cross

Written by Andi McNair

Are you searching for a source of peace? We are here to listen.

“He personally carried away our sins in His own body on the cross so we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. You have been healed by his wounds!” (1 Peter 2:24, NLT)

Today, as I was cleaning house, I began to reflect on the many crosses that we have hanging throughout our home. I love crosses and have them hanging in almost every room. I have them in our home to remind us each and every day of the sacrifice that our Savior made for us.

However, I think we often look at the cross as simply decoration or jewelry. We have minimized the huge significance of the cross. I often see people wearing the cross but doing things that would not be pleasing to God. Don’t you know that it breaks the heart of our Father to see that what meant so much has come to mean so little in our culture?

When I think about that day – that terrible, yet beautiful day, I can’t imagine how anyone could look at a cross without being extremely grateful. The cross reminds me of the pain, the suffering, and the unbelievable sacrifice that Jesus made for us. Knowing that God’s heart grieved for His only Son as He watched Him go through such a terrible death, brings my heart grief. But knowing that God loved me that much brings me joy and a heart of thankfulness.

Thinking about the cross can be overwhelming. What Jesus went through that day is almost too much to conceive. However, as Christians we know that our Savior did not stay on that cross. Instead, our Savior overcame the grave and is alive today.

1 Peter 2:24 (NLT) says “He personally carried away our sins in His own body on the cross so we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. You have been healed by his wounds!”

Wow! The cross carries so much meaning. As I sit here writing this, looking at the cross on my wall, I realize that it stands for death, it stands for life, and most importantly it stands for the relationship that I am able to have with the Father all because of Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice.

So next time you see a cross hanging on a wall or in a jewelry store, take some time to reflect on what the cross truly means. Remember the sacrifice that was made for you and take a moment to thank your Savior for giving His life so that you could have yours. Thank Him for enduring the pain and torture so that you could experience forgiveness and eternal life. Don’t allow the significance of the cross to become minimized in your life. Realize the reality of what Christ did for you and thank Him for it every day!

I loved the part of the verse that says “You have been healed by his wounds!” Jesus death also paid for all of our sicknesses, both physically & emotionally. The cross to me means ABUNDANT life here & now as well as when we die & go to heaven to live with Him for eternity.

To me the Cross reminds me of the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is now sitted, victoriously on the right hand side of our Father as Christ Jesus. He is calling all who believe in Him to reign and rule with Him. This awesome convenant, so much blesses because our sitting with Him in the heavenlies, yet we are standing on earth, is awesome. Who can comprehend this if you are not in Him and Him in you? Isnt it mind-blowing? All we have to do as believers is, walk on the finished work of His awesome LOVE. May Rev. 5:12 be vivid in our minds. May we not only remember Him with the crosses hanging in our houses, but do according to 1 Cor. 11:23-26 (emphasis on verse 26). May we even do it, not only in our local churches, but also in our homes; eat with our children as a family. May the Lord bless us.

The cross to me means I’m loved so dearly, that I am cared about, thought of, sacrificed instead of. It’s significance is extremely thought provoking to me and for this cross I am thankful that I can have eternal life – if I chose! Praise God.

When i look at the cross one statement comes to my mind ‘because we are loved’. It is the greatest sacrifice in which we find forgiveness, we offer our prayers,we recieve blessings and offer thanks giving. The cross is a powerful prayer in remebrance of how we are loved by God. By his wounds we have been healed. Because of our sins he was crucified when you look at the cross make a resolution not to sin. Thank you Jesus Praise you Jesus

i don’t wear a crucifix b/c it would be like wearing a gun around my neck. i have a gold cross that only has the loin cloth on it. it reinds me Jesus is ALIVE NOT DEAD! That not even death could hold him in the ground…now this IS POWER!People compliment it all the time. When i wear it i touch it alot to remind me Jesus is always with me. Also it reminds me i’m going to Heaven one day.

The cross means hope for tomorrow, hope for this world, without the cross there is no hope…
