Good Morning, God!

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23).

My alarm went off at 6:00 a.m. Again. I had to get breakfast ready to serve the campers at 8:00. Again. I had been doing this since the middle of June. It was August and I was tired of working at camp. Later that day, I talked to my friend. She said I needed to stop thinking “Good God, its morning,” and start thinking, “Good morning, God!”

Routine can really get us down. It’s hard to be joyful when we think we’re just facing another routine day. Thanks to God, we don’t have to dread the coming day.

No matter how hard it may be, I’ve found that it is crucial to wake up in the morning and say and believe, “Good morning, God!” Decide that this is the day that the Lord has made. Decide to rejoice in it. Ask Him to remind you throughout the day that this day is good because He is in it.

Before you get out of bed, recite some verses you have memorized, and repeat them throughout the day. Pray and ask Him to be with you and guide you through this day and to remind you to rejoice in this new day. When your focus is on God, your focus won’t be on the routine of the day. When you are totally living the day for God, you will be more focused on carrying His name in everything you do.

I woke up in my dorm room several months after that day at camp. It was a normal January day, but to me, it was the third anniversary of when I had committed my life to Christ. I woke up determined to make it a special day with God.

I prayed for fifteen minutes first thing that morning. Throughout the day, I talked with God and intentionally spent time with Him. It was an awesome day. I didn’t want it to end.

Later that day, I realized the joy of celebrating that anniversary didn’t have to end. I could still totally focus on God every day. I decided then that every day would be a special day because God is walking through the day with me.

Today is a new day. Celebrate! Thank God for this day.

    Thank the Lord for this message! I am so encouraged by your reminders tonight. It is sometimes very hard to remain joyful even when things are going fine. I’ve taken so much for granted and pray every day that I can become increasingly more thankful to God for all He has done. Thank you, thank you, thank you. What a scripture too!

    I have been going through a rough period in my life and a year and a half ago in the Fall as I drove down some back roads, a voice said to me “enjoy the journey”. Since then every so often those 3 words keep coming back to me has a reminder. After reading this devotional the same 3 words again came back to & at me. So each day I have endeavored to ‘enjoy the (my) journey’ good/bad after all it comes from God!!

    Thank you for letting me know that this was encouraging to you, ladies! You definitely aren’t alone on this! “Carry his name” came from a talk from the Passion conference that I went to this year. If you want some more encouragement, listen to the song “carry your name” by christy nockels :)

    I love this! I’m recently retired and I know that sometimes I don’t want to get out of bed in the morning, because it’s warm and toasty there. But the idea to “live the day for God!” and “carry His name in all you do” really adds to my desire to get up and DO for Him and read His word. Thanks.

    I am so happy to receive a message like this because I think I am not alone in approaching my days in a ho-hum manner. God needs us to shine our lights for Him so that others see Christ in us throughout the day. Thank you for the brush up.

    After waking up at 4:30 am, and then again at 6:30am, to feed my infant, I found myself already grumbling. This may be because I saw my husband comfortably sleeping away. :) Nonetheless, after reading this devotional, I have come to the realizations of what I would be thankful for at the end of my day, at the begininning of my day today. I have a beautiful, joyful daughter, and a Godly husband who would do anything for me. I’m very blessed!

    I feel very encouraged by this article. My life was feeling boring at the moment. I am expectant of something which seems to be taking to long in coming and i was feeling like i do not know how God wants me to pray but after reading this article i felt so encouraged and felt power to pray being rstored in me.
