Let God Love You

Written by Helen Grace Lescheid

Do you feel unloved? We want to pray for you.

When a child is fussy, what do you do? You take her onto your lap and talk soothingly to her. Maybe you sit in a rocking chair and sing until she falls asleep. Or, like me, you hold the baby in your arms and do a little dance and make up silly, little songs. Soon my grandchild relaxes and her eyes, resting on my face, seem to say, “I like that, Oma! Sing some more.” It always amuses me that I have at least one fan who likes my singing!

Can you visualize God caring for you like that?

Listen to what the Bible says: “The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with his love, He will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).

God wants to take you onto His lap. He wants to hold you in His arms. He wants to quiet you with His love and with His singing.

Do you have an anxious spirit this morning? Let me suggest you do the following:
1. Sit quietly for a few moments and visualize yourself sitting on God’s lap. Or, if you like, being held in His arms with your head resting on His shoulder.
2. Write out the above verse and say it out loud, adding, “God is very fond of me.”
3. Go for a walk and pick up the “I love you’s” God has written on the canvass of nature:
1) White, fluffy clouds drifting into unique formations sometimes edged in gold.
2) A violet with its bright purple face peeking through the grass.
3) Trees dipped in evening sunlight.
4) A humming bird, in pulsating colors hovering near your window.

Be alert to God’s “I love you’s: tucked into a busy day.

As I was working my way through the crowds in Costco, I turned a corner, and there in the aisle were two sparrows doing a little hopscotch on the cement floor. As I approached, they soared up into the rafters. Ah, God’s “I love you”! I thought.

Lord God, I thank you that You love me more than I can imagine. Give me the grace to receive Your love and to pass it on to others today. Amen.

Questions: How do you visualize God’s love for you? What helps you in making it real to yourself?

True, today the Lord spoke something like that to me…I was riding my bicycle and I saw a bird picking up something in its beak and I thought… Thank you Lord for that little thing you showed me,I don’t have a camera but I could see with my eyes. and I thought how silent nature is and how noisy the world around is. I must admit after a noisy day at work it was a good reminder (I work in a metal shop).

I can really relate to this because at times I really do need a comforting experience when life gets overwhelming and I need someone to just hold me and tell me everything is gonna be alright. I don’t always have the ability to get that from a person. I remember in one particular instance being completely overwhelmed with sadness and I needed God to hold me. I knelt beside my bed and layed my head on the bed. I wanted to lay my head in God’s lap and just cry so I did. I cried and cried and let those healing tears flow and feel the comfort from God. I knew that he was with me and I almost felt like he was brushing my hair back and telling me he was there. I haven’t forgotten that experience and in my moments of despair I try and be in the moment and feel God’s comforting presence consoling me.

I visualize God’s love as all-compassing! When I going running/jogging in the woods and I am surrounded by the trees and I hear the birds/animals and hear the stillness around me I feel embraced in His arms. During this time I feel lighter and the burdens fall away! Thank you God!!

Thank you Helen for this important reminder. Very timely for me. I will be holding on to this beautiful scripture in Zephaniah today.

I read this and I love birds and nature, but its hard for me to enjoy things when I have Tinnitis in my left ear with noises all the time for 4 yrs after my Mom died in Jan. 14, 2007. I was born hard of hearing and I used to wear two hearing aids with digital aids and it was wonderful hearing things I have’nt heard before! But now i wear aids in my right ear which I don;t hear so well at all. Im also having hormones problems which makes life difficult to live with. Im sooo tired of this.I know GOD LOVES ME. I’m tired of the noises in my ear!!!!! Thanks JENNIFER D.

Wow…i’ve never been asked these kinds of questions before so i had to really think about an answer. When i travel about by myself (which is virtually all the time), it’s like i imagine angels watching over me. In the past when i had cars that were ready to conk out, God got me to a safe place before it actually happened. One time it was really late with me coming home from work, i had to drive down a very dark road to get home. The car stopped running the minute i got into my driveway! i have countless stories of His protection over me. i would have to say this is how God has made His love real to me. Blessings to you all ~

Great devo. Godly insight. Love your image of God calming us.

  • I love this devotional… it is such a calming and peaceful image to visualize Jesus dancing with me in His arms, my Abba Father rocking with me on His knee with my head against His chest listening to His heart beat! This is such a powerful Scripture and so soothing, and I am going to start a journal today of God’s “special love moments” in my life… the little and not-so-little things He does every day to show me that He loves me that only He knows are special to me. It is such a wonderful way to keep my mind and eyes fixed on Jesus. Thank you so much for this, Helen!
