Rest in Him

Written by Emmie Stanley

Do you feel like you don’t have time to stop and rest? Read “Learning to Rest: The miracle of God”

“The Lord is my Sheppard,
I have all that I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows,
He leads me beside peaceful streams.
He renews my strength
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honour to His name” (Psalm 23:1-3, NLT).

Taskmaster or loving Father? How do you perceive God? Do you feel like “it is never good enough?” Like you’re not a very good Christian and you have let God down? That if you could just do… (fill in the blank) for God, then He would love you more?

I think all of us would say that to some degree we fall into these ways of thinking. Yet with Jesus, our truest success comes when we rest in Him. It is in the place of resting that we are best able to hear His voice and His gentle leading, as well as become physically strengthened and refreshed to execute the things that He leads us in.

As the children of God we have His permission to take times of rest and recreation. It is His desire that we enjoy our relationship with Him. He is a loving Father who has delivered us from slavery to the things of this world, to receive His promise that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. It is His heart for us to snuggle up with Him and delight in His company, and to do us good all the days of our lives.

So come, sit on your daddy’s lap and receive from Him, rejoice, let the cares of the world go by and take up the wonderful plans that He has for you. Just follow Him one day at a time and do not allow yourself to be placed under heavy burdens. Restful, joyful places – that is His heart’s desire for each one of us.

“Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever” (Psalm 23:6, NLT).

What a great promise in Jeremiah 32:17 “Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.

God created the trials and tribulations as well as the positive in our lives. If we don’t go through strife we will never surrender all of our problems and learn to rest in him. The following passage is from Isaiah 43: When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.

I understand your uneasiness, I have been uneasy for months myself. I have had to rely on Jesus as Daniel relied on Our Lord when he went into the lion pit. Also, when David went to confront Goliath. I have to surrender to God everyday, as it is the only way I can leave behind my baggage behind, so I might fit through the ‘Narrow Gate’. I thank God that he made you aware of the prowler. God watches everything, I wonder what the message was in that? I ask that the power of Jesus, The Grace of God and the spirit of the Holy spirit be with you and wrap their arms around you and keep you close, blessed be amen.

This devotional was music to my ears because I always feel like I never do enough, never measure up. In fact my whole life I was coming from behind in my family and could never prove my worth to them, that I had a worthwhile contribution to make, or that I mattered at all. It is so hard to overcome these “childhood imprints” that are falsehoods, that keep haunting your mind reminding you of your inadequate self. Of course we all know Satan is the author of those lies and loves to keep you locked in the cellar of that prison. Jesus filled the hole in my soul many years ago and showed me where I derived my worth from, Christ alone. Now it just seems like I want to do more for him to bring joy to the Father and bring more to the kingdom. My self worth will never be in doubt again because, I am the daughter of The King of Kings, and it does not get any better than that.

    Be Blessed In Him

Praise God for our Abba! Father and for Jesus our Shepherd, Doris! I understand what you mean when you speak of those old feelings of uneasiness. I can get in a place where anxiety seems “easier” for me than peace. But nothing is more joyful for me than shedding those old emotional hard places where I was in continual torment for the cuddle-times with my Lord! I thank God that He is always with me and I can turn to Him at any time and wrap my arms about Him, and He is ready for me and responds with His everlasting embrace of love. Thank you so much for this beautiful reminder of our Lord’s awesome love for us, Emmie! God bless you!

This devotional is just what I need today. A prowler last night set off my security system and an old uneasiness tried to take over. Upon being reminded that I can just rest in Him, my Abba Father, allows me to not fear.
