“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:9, NKJV)
In Mark chapter four Jesus tells the parable of the growing seed. “And He said, ‘The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. For the earth yields crops by itself; first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.’” (Mark 4:26-29, NKJV)
My Dad recently told me a story about when he was a very young man, he leased a farm a little ways out of Winnipeg. In the spring he would sow seed, and then he would go to the city for the summer to work as a plumber. When it was time he would return to the farm with the full expectation of finding a crop ready to be harvested. He simply had faith that once the seed was in the ground, nature would take its course, and the crops would come to full fruition.
When we pray, we are sowing seed by asking God in faith for what we need. Once we have asked, things start happening behind the scenes. Whether we are asleep or awake, God is at work organizing the details and preparing an answer to our prayer. In time the answer will be manifested and we will “reap” the results of our seed (prayer) sown.
Faith is the ability to continue on with our lives knowing that God is at work even when it seems like nothing is happening. Hold fast, be encouraged, know that God has heard your prayers, keep believing and you will see the harvest come in.
“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:9, NKJV)
“Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.” (Hebrews 10:35, NKJV)

Dear Bianca,
I rejoice with you! Your husband is to be commended for his strong faith and I’m glad that it was an inspiration for you. God certainly knows what He’s doing! How marvelous that God used another person to speak into your life, and confirm that there was a breakthrough! Not only will this child be special, but you both will be a blessing in your church. If it would have come too easy than it would not be as special as it is now.
A year ago, and till you were ready to give up, God was teaching that it is not by human effort but by His blessing that we have children. HE deserves all the credit, all the praise and all the honor for bringing this new life into your family!
This same thing can be true in many other areas of our lives, in that we want to take most or all the credit for doing something (be it ever so good), but God says “Wait till I allow you to do it.” That, I think, puts life itself into an eternal perspective! Peace and Joy.
Last year October my husband and I suffered a devastating loss when i suffered a miscarriage. Since then we have been so desperate to have a baby and now it’s been a year and i was ready to just give up and God’s showed me since July already that i would have a child but it became very difficult to believe when month after month passed and nothing. In fact a few months ago i was told that i would find it very difficult to fall pregnant and carry a child to full term. My husband is adamant that we will full pregnant by the end of the year. I was having difficultly following his faith in this matter, but after reading this. I know, God has a plan, He has promised this child to me, over this last weekend, God used someone else to speak to me, i was told that there was a break through in something that i had been praying into and felt like i just continually hit a wall. It seems that God’s timing for my child has finally arrived and I am so excited!!! I can’t wait! God has got such an awesome plan for my husband and I next year! Both in our church and personal lives!
Christy you are so right!! Sometimes God’s answer is indeed ‘no’ because he knows us better than we know ourselves. We are so sure that we know best but He sees the big picture and we most certainly don’t. Thanks for that great reminder!
We have to also remember that sometimes God’s answer is “No”. While we should continue to pray for the things we want, we have to also pray for the things that would be in his will for us. Sometimes what we want is not what we need. I have received “things” in my life that I so desperately wanted, but when I got them…it wasn’t so wonderful. Know, that when God does answers our NO prayers, He will bless us with something far better a fit than what we may have asked for. Plant your seeds, and with confidence know that He will answer with the best to meet your needs, to bring you to your purpose, and to bring Him the glory. Its a wonderful harvest!
i’ve been asking God for the perfect husband for me (not a “perfect person”) my whole life and i’m now 60 yrs young! What’s up with this? i feel like Abraham and Sarah and sure hope i don’t have to wait till i’, 99 yrs old before it happens!
Hi Carmen,
This was our topic in Sunday School this week. To what extent do we trust Him? —In everything? Why not? HE is certainly big enough for us to trust Him, and He’s interested in us to the smallest detail. He can make a way, where right now we cannot see a way, for He is all powerful. It may be a matter of us letting go!
There was an area in my life also, and now (at age 75) I wish I’d given him complete control. In my selfish shortsightedness I held on, and now I’m sorry for that, not knowing what I’ve missed.
Think of the many things that God has done for you throughout your life. Will He not handle this thing in as good a way also? Imagine the joy of a breakthrough. The joy of knowing that He’s blessing you in this area also!
There may be the matter of digging up a seed by asking God repeatedly. We need to give it time to sprout undisturbed and send up that first little shoot. We can do so by thanking Him in advance that the answer is on its way. It takes confidence and trust, to feel in your heart that all is taken care of. Maybe we need to thank Him for the joy of anticipation. I have found that I can trust Him for a week or a month, and then step up form there. Let’s praise Him for having already done more in that one area for you than we realize!
Thanks for this devotional. It’s what I need to hear right now because I’m struggling to believe God will answer my prayer and to trust Him fully. I am thankful to God for what He has done for me all my life and I have tried to follow Him, but there is one area where I feel abandoned by Him and I’m finding it hard to trust God fully. This devotional has reminded me not to give up. I want to trust God with all my heart, but I’m struggling to.
What an encouragement this devotional is. Thanks ladies for taking the time to visit our site and leave a comment about what God is doing in your lives.
Thank you, a lovely insight to this parable. This is how it works.
Iam believing God to strengthen my husband in his walk as he is a new christian the devil does not like defeat,he is facing challenges with friends who seem to think he cannot conquer such that he seems to be lacking boldness but I know God will work his powers in him.T
hank you for your encouraging website
Thank you Emmie. I am so encouraged today and determined to “not lose heart” with God’s help, of course. Bless you for a devotion that keeps us looking ahead in hope.
My husband and I are believing to back home to Michigan, specifically Southfield, MI. And we know GOD has heard our prayers by ‘sights and signs’ we are getting and hearing!!!
The GOD we serve faithful and true to HIS word but we always send up praise and worship to HIM. We TOTALLY Trust HIM.
We have been through some things while living where we are now but as GOD is our witness, provider and rewarder HE has brought us through all of it.
Trust HIM and believe HE has heard your prayer and stand in confidence of HIS word.
This devotional has really helped me today. I knew that truth, but somehow, today really brought it home to me. I have been struggling with personal family issues for 5 years, and I know that God will work things according to His will.
Thanks for this devotional. It’s so wonderful to feel God’s peace in the midst of our trials. It’s like nothing else, and it’s hard to even describe (but it shows). We do actually “see the harvest come in” when we hold fast to our faith and believe that God’s perfect plan in in action. God is so good.
