Knock Knock! Who’s there?

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20)

What would your response be if the one knocking at your door said, “It’s Jesus, may I come in?”

There could be three different reactions to such a knock:

1. O Lord Jesus I have been looking forward to your return. Please come in and make yourself at home. As you know, I have been preparing myself for this get-together. I hope you are very pleased with all you see.

2. Sorry Jesus you can’t come in right now. Could you please wait while I tidy up? You caught me off guard; I have not propered myself for your arrival. Could you possibly come back another time?

3. Jesus who? I don’t know anyone by that name. What do you want?

Clearly, the above responses from each individual stems upon his or her current relationship and walk with the Lord, which forms around daily lifestyle.

Jesus warns about preparing for His coming, “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him.” (Luke 12: 35-36)

Which of the above categories (1, 2, or 3) are you currently in?

If your answer is one, that is wonderful but don’t think to highly of yourself, for it is Christ in you and the working of the Holy Spirit that is perfecting your ways. Daily ask God to check your heart, mind, and motives for we can easily be mislead.

If your answer is two, understand it’s ok but don’t let this message fall on deaf ears or a hardened heart. Ask God to reveal what needs to be “cleaned up” in your life. Be honest with Him and He will reveal what is displeasing and no longer has a part in the new life He offers.

The culprit(s) might be things you watch, read, or wear. It could possibly be a poor attitude, character trait, or sinful/self-destructive habit, which is not proper in His sight. Seek to turn away from whatever is displeasing to Him. “Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent.” (Revelation 3:19)

If your answer is three, I have wonderful news for you. Jesus has been waiting for you to let Him come into your heart. God has been patiently waiting for you to accept His gracious gift of salvation and eternal life. “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20)

Dear God, May we be on alert and ready for the return of Christ Jesus. May our lives become a reflection of that which is to come, lives that brings honor and glory to your name. Amen

So how did your life take such a dramatic turn Tamara? What was it that the Holy Spirit did to lead you fit into category 1?

I started off in category three…then by the grace of God I was transplanted into category two…now I am in category one thanks to the inner workings of the Holy Spirit within….
