Who are you agreeing with today?

Written by Gail Rodgers

devo-interact-icon-42x42 Do you need help getting out of your “funk”? Let us pray for you

A friend called and asked for prayer because a “funk”, as she called it (a blue and grabby mood) was hanging on and she felt helpless to shake it.

Have you ever been in a disgruntled, grumpy, “blue funk” and not been able to shake it? As a Christian and a believer in Jesus you have all the resources you need to live in victory and to shake off the sludge that seeks to spiral you downward.

Allowing a disgruntled spirit to settle over you like a blanket will lead to doubt in your heart toward God … and His goodness toward you. It’s true. As believers we need to know how to stand and shake off the darkness that creeps so subtly into our hearts and slowly erodes our trust in our great God.

The enemy of our souls has no new tricks. He knows this one well and uses it successfully over and over. He knows it will erode our trust and leave us living in defeat. That’s why God has addressed it over and over in His Word. He wants us to live equipped for victory!

When you feel lost in the blue funk, the grabby day or find yourself nursing a general disgruntled outlook on life, stop and ask God to reveal to you what agreements you are making with the enemy of your soul. Agreeing with him will give strength to the wrong thinking and lead you away from victory.

Agreements with the enemy of your soul sound something like this:

“I’ll never _____________________________ .”(have a good marriage/get out of financial trouble/get that job/loose this weight/be a good mom/etc. etc. etc.

I’m always_____________________.”(dumb/stupid/late/worried/unqualified/wrong/ talking too much/etc. etc. etc.)

You get the idea. The blue funk will always be punctuated with these types of downward thoughts.

INSTEAD begin to make your agreements with the Scripture.

“I am cleaned and forgiven.” Col.1:14
“I am assured that God will work things out for my good and His glory.” Rom.s 8:28
“I can find mercy and grace in my time of need.” Hebrews 4:16
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil 4:13
“I can approach God with freedom and confidence.” Eph. 3:12

Declare your faith and believe God. Let nothing move you! He is there! He is waiting for you to trust Him. Put your hand in His today in fresh renewal of your faith in Him. Believe and don’t doubt.
James 1:6-8 tells us the person that is double-minded, believing and doubting, believing and doubting, is unstable in all he does.

Choose carefully today where you are making your agreements and with whom. Challenge your thinking. Find the agreements with the enemy of your soul and lay the truth of Scripture over them. Hold on to those truths with the tenacity of a bull dog. You will find stability and grace to move through your day. Christ is your trustworthy anchor today. Rise up and begin to walk in victory today!

Oh Lord, May I be aware today of the thoughts that I choose to hang on to and nurse in my mind and heart today. May I choose the truth of Your Word and walk in strength and dignity and victory! In the strong name of Jesus I pray, amen.

Isn’t it amazing how God uses a Devotional that was written months ago, built and scheduled a month ago by our content team to minister to each of you this month! God is so good to give us exactly what we need when we need it.What a good reminder that we do indeed need to ‘Choose carefully today where you are making your agreements and with whom. Challenge your thinking.’Too often we don’t take the time to recognize and identify what we are agreeing with and whose voices we are listening to.

Thank you so much for this today. As usual, God knows exactly what I need. I’m struggling with weight loss, I have all my life. Everyday I don’t succeed or lose the will power I fall deeper and deeper. This devotional spoke right to those thoughts. In the big picture of God’s love, mercy and grace, it really doesn’t matter to Him. I’m being selfish by focusing so much attention to my outer shell, while not working on the part that really matters.I can succeed in everything, but only through the power of God, not my own. Amen.

Thank you Gail for the devotional today. Love the scripture you used here. It’s all about choice isn’t? I can choose to allow negativeness, worry and anger invade my heart or I can choose to allow the Holy Spirit rule my heart and “walk in strength, dignity and victory”! Amen.

WOW!!! I really needed this devotional. I talk myself down before I even get my day started. It really is hard to be positive when all you think is negative. I will work on this through GOD’s Grace I can do it.

Thank you Gail for your encouraging word. I’ve definitely been in a funk lately over my job, finances and my marriage. I love the idea of choosing who or what we agree with. I have been agreeing with fearful, doubtful thoughts. I have a new mission! ….to choose to apply Gods truth to these situations and agree with the Lord of these situations and my life!

Wow,thank you so much for this devotion. This same spirit has been attacking me over the past couple of days . Even days when I decided I’m gonna be happy, somehow I end up sulikng and just being depressed about everything in my life.My husband remains a man of faith and will continuosly encourage me and try and lift my spirit. I also knew this was not from God because it leaves me with regret and guilt for not being being grateful.Just by reading this I know it that the works of darkness have been exposed and that means I am delivered in Jesus Name. God bless you for the wonderful work you’re doing to edify the Body of Christ.
