Bags Fly Free

Is worry sitting heavy on your shoulders today? Come talk to a mentor.

“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Mathew 11: 28-30)

The other day while my husband and I waited in line at the curbside check in at the airport, I noticed a couple in front of us had become frustrated with the airline attendant. Apparently, their luggage exceeded the weight limit, which prevented them from checking their bags in free.

In order for their luggage to meet the weight requirement, they had to remove several items from each bag so they could be checked in at no charge. It took them several minutes to remove enough items in order to proceed on without the extra cost. But once they met the limit, the couple walked away in high spirits knowing it did not cost them additional money for their trip.

I believe many people are traveling through life, day in and day out, carrying heavy burdens that they need to unload. The cargo they are hauling along could be loaded with a multiple of things, issues, and concerns. The list is endless.

Unless they take time to unpack whatever burdens they are carrying, it will cost them dearly. The price tag can be extremely high: severing important relationships, manifesting sickness and disease, and most importantly hindering their walk with God.

We as followers of Christ have a special place where we can go to check in our heavy loads. It is at the feet of Jesus. He said, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Mathew 11:28) Jesus promises that all who come to Him will find rest for their souls.

Have you been feeling weighed down lately? Does it seem as if you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders? Is it time for you to check in your baggage? Before it costs you anymore, take time and begin to cast your cares upon the Lord. God’s word says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

Warning, should you choose to hang onto your “baggage”, it will come with a price. However, you can be like the couple above and journey on in high spirits, if you decide to cast your cares upon Him who loves you dearly.

Dear Lord, May we lay our burdens at your feet. May we find rest for our weary souls as we set aside the heavy burdens of this world. In Jesus name,  Amen

    Mary,

I know God has wonderful plans for you…you took the first step by receiving the Lord into your heart and made Him your Savior. In time all that extra baggage will be lifted up and out of your life…no longer having any controll over you…for His yoke is easy and His burdens are light.

I’ll bee cheering you on every step of the way.

    Hello Barbara!

Yes, we all have baggage, baggage, baggage. I felt mine dragging me down to where I almost couldn’t “walk” anymore. But I finally gave it to the Lord about a week ago and now 10/15/2011 is my new birthday.

And even though as of right now, the baggage is still in my life, I don’t feel the weight of it like I did. I know, of course, that this is because Jesus is now carrying it for me and working on it as He sees fit.

    Love you!
    Mary

Dear Lukia, Thank you for sharing with us. It is obvious that God is speaking to His children. It is good that you recognized such “confirmation” of your sermon and this devotional.
