Jesus Came to Bring Peace

Written by Suzanne Benner

This is one of the hardest months for many.  The brokenness in their homes and relationships leaves them hurting deeply.  In this time of pain, many come to us seeking answers.  Our mentors are able to come alongside, encourage and give hope to them as they show God’s love.  You can help this life changing ministry take place through financial support.

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

Isaiah foretold that Jesus’ name would be peace.  The angels declared that God would bring peace to men through Jesus. “Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.” (Luke 2:13, 14) Oh how we need peace!

We need peace in our countries, within and with out. We need peace in our homes, peace in our own hearts. We need the peace that only God can provide for us.

The peace Jesus brings doesn’t mean the immediate end of strife, or that all disagreement or controversy will cease. Instead, Jesus brings us peace with God, healing our broken relationship through His sacrifice on the cross. Once we have peace with God we can also have peace in the midst of our circumstances by resting in the knowledge that He is in control.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)

His peace is a lasting peace that is not dependent on the situation or the time of year.

O Holy God, how we need Your peace. Help us not to be troubled or afraid by the uncertainty in our world, but to rest in the knowledge that Jesus has brought us peace with You.  Amen.

Questions: How does peace with God help us in our daily struggles? When have you experienced the peace “which transcends all understanding”?

Is your life anything but peaceful? Come talk to a mentor.

    Brother T:

Thank you for your prayers. I just want to edify you and the season that you are in at this point in your life. I am encouraged that although you have gone through trial and tribulation, that you still have the heart to edify others. Thank you for modeling the act of self-less love.

Your words reminded me of my experience in how the Lord works in non-Western countries, little towns or big cities where one might not expect a Christian presence. What I found was especially in poor places, church activities are all about praising God, worshipping in Spirit and in Truth, studying the Word and whichever comes first – a focus on worship & praise or God showing up in supernatural ways – I notice that the two come hand in hand. Whenever there is a desperate focus on God, no fancy technical special effects, elaborate church architecture or grand modern buildings, the result is that GOd shows up in very bold ways where His presence is strongly felt. Unmistakenly felt and known.

Yet, in Western cultures, sometimes we get used to not being in the wilderness for the majority of the time. And when we are, it takes us a while to be self-less. Whereas in poor non-Western places, believers do not have the luxury to be selfish or be distracted by materialistic things, and as a result tend to focus more on their role in God’s Kingdom. We do not have the same desperation in some non-Western cultures, especially in poverty, and our intimacy with GOd isn’t as intense.

So I am grateful for your prayers amidst the time of loss. Brother, your edification of others is very much appreciated. May the Lord continue to bless you and bring you all that you need through this coming New Year. I pray the same for all who visit this thread. :)

    Sharon,
God bless you sister. Thank you so much for your prayers. I have been tossing this evening and God led me to check my emails and comforted me through your comment. Sister i too will be lifting you up in prayer for sure daily. You have been through much trials, tribulations, pain and suffering too ,clearly. Let us remember there are always blessings during these times and afterwards. God uses these times to help us grow. Sometimes we soon see them and sometimes it takes a long time to see. It is also possible to never see the blessing but if we trust God ,that there are blessings and He knows what He is doing, then we find peace through it. Sometimes God brings us into the wilderness so that we seek only more of Him,and grow closer to Him. He knows what is best for us and is totally Soveriegn. We do not always understand but we can confidently continue to trust Him! He sees us through. My prayer for you sister is that you continue to cling to the hand of God,knowing that like every snowflake is different, yet carries its own special beauty, and each snowflake brings glory to God! May you sister sharon remember how precious and wonderfully made you are,and how loved. Continue to Bring God glory! He is not done with us. In Jesus wonderful Name for His Kingdoms sake. Yours In Christ! Brother T (Tom)

My dear brothers and sisters. It is a time of the year to put personal feeligs aside with my troubles and pain, and focus on celebrating the Birth of our Savior! He is the One who is peace and Love. Jesus is almighty God who has always existed and always will. He is the One i trust to see me through difficult hardship and to relax my emotions. Losing three people in one year dear to me and having had a good job in the past stolen from me has not been easy. God never said it would be easy. He said to just take up the Cross and follow. There is no doubt that the Love of God,comforts and eases hurt. The enemy is a liar and when those negative emotions come that try to get me to give up and turn from God,it just reassures me that God is with me. He is with you too and just draw closer to Him ,knowing He is Faithful, dependable and with us always. Claim victory over the enemy and know that in Christ there is power! We belong to the King of Kings and the trials and tribulations just mold us into more of the men and women we were created to be. Praise be to King Jesus! Blessings to all.
