Life is Like a Book

Written by Barbara Alpert

Are you in a challenging season of life? Come talk to a mentor.

“And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and the books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life…” (Revelation 20:12)

Upon entering a bookstore or library, there is a wide assortment of categories, genres, and subjects to browse. Aisle after aisle shelves are brimming with all sorts of books ranging from fiction to self-helps, mysteries to romance novels. Whatever the subject you’re looking for, you’ll find it in a book. Regardless of genre, each book has a few things in common – a beginning, middle, and ending.

Life is similar to a book. It has a beginning, middle, and end. Throughout time we will experience a variety of chapters that will compile to form our life story.  Whatever shape our story takes, one main issue is that somewhere along the way acknowledgment and acceptance of Jesus Christ took place. Without it our name will not appear in one of the most important books of all – the book of life.

It is through faith in Jesus our name appears in the Lamb’s book of life, granting us eternal life with Him. The Bible says, “Nothing impure will ever enter it…, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. (Revelation 21:27) Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

As followers of Christ, it is vital that we stay focused on Him, that we “fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith”. (Hebrews 12:2) Our thoughts form our inkwell, and our choices and actions are like a pen. As new pages unfold, it is imperative we collaborate with God’s indwelling Holy Spirit to edit, critique, and revise our lives. Even when we err, if we confess our sins to God, he blots out our transgressions.

Life is like a book; however, our lives do not end. They will continue even after our story ceases. No matter what chapter of life you are in, know that each new day is an opportunity to make wise decisions and choices based on God’s truths and to serve Him with all of your heart. Aim to leave a godly legacy. Desire to make the Bible, God’s inspired Word, your most valuable, most sought after, most treasured book.

Question: How can you be leaving a Godly legacy at this chapter of your life?

Thank you for sharing with us. I’m certain that it pleases God to see you in this chapter of life focused on purification/sanctification. The next chapter and level that He brings you I am certain it will have a great impact in your life, His kingdom work, and the lives that you will touch. You are so correct in saying, “God looks at the heart and not our face.” May the Lord continue to do HIS wonderful works throug as you seek to leave a Godly legacy.

I am in a chapter of purification from all sins,Hatred, unrighteousness. And Despite the mistakes, trespasses, and displeasing the Lord, truly indeed, the Grace of God abounds all of them. i am leaving a Godly legacy in this chapter of my life by coming to His throne of grace humbly, wholeheartedly, asking and begging for mercy and forgiveness,( of course with a sincere heart, Because God looks at the heart and not your face ). As paul said, ” Fight a good Fight of Faith “. Amen

Great insights! I especially liked, “Our thoughts form our inkwell, and our choices and actions are like a pen. “
