Step Outside What Is Comfortable

Written by Leonard Buhler

You don’t need to move to Africa to serve God.  God can use you wherever you are.  That might be Africa, or it might be in an office tower in downtown Toronto, or a university campus in Edmonton.  The trouble is that when we stick with what’s comfortable and familiar for too long, sometimes we find ourselves in a rut.  We lose our sense of urgency, our passion for what God is asking us to do.  We get so used to our routines, that we stop depending on God and just do things out of habit.  Has that ever happened to you?

Try stepping outside what’s comfortable.  The most amazing things can happen when you put yourself into a situation where you need to rely on God to do the impossible.  It could be something close to home – like volunteering at a downtown shelter, where you share Christ in word and action – or it could be something far away – like using your vacation to go on a short-term missions project.  I encourage you to spend time in prayer this week, and ask God whether He wants you to step into a new adventure with Him!

Take action:

  • Pray: Ask God whether He wants you to step outside your usual routine with Him.
  • Go:  Consider spending a few weeks or longer on a short-term missions project – LIFE Team Projects, coordinated by Global Aid Network, are one incredible option.
  • Read:  Be inspired by reading A Healing Journey, the story of how God challenged and stretched a young woman named Lindsay as she spent a few months out of her comfort zone.

Serving Jesus together,
Leonard Buhler.
