Marriages Need Jesus

Written by Leonard Buhler

I don’t know anyone who has marriage all figured out.  Do you?  When it comes to the couples I know, I can think of some who have stunningly healthy relationships.  But I can also think of husbands and wives who are struggling– whose marriages are consumed by conflict, stress, and unmet expectations.  Most couples I know are actually somewhere in the middle: still wanting to stick together and make it work… not always sure how and always open to a little guidance!

Inviting non-believing friends to a Christian marriage seminar is a great way to share your faith with them.  The best approach is to go together.  Tell your friends about a great workshop that’s happening at a local church or community centre, and invite them to join you.  Try being a little vulnerable: share that you and your spouse could use some guidance in your own marriage and ask them if they’d like to come along. That way you can all be fellow learners.  Afterwards, invite your friends to debrief with you over coffee and dessert.  Hopefully you’ll have lots to talk about!  Pray for the opportunity to share how Jesus makes a difference in your marriage.

Take Action:

  1. If there are no high-quality Christian marriage events in your area, why not organize one yourself?  Family Life Canada has an excellent one-day workshop called “A Day Together” that you can easily host at your church or business.  The content works for both non-Christians and Christians, so you can be confident about inviting your friends.  For more information on either attending or hosting a Family Life seminar, visit http://familylifecanada.com/events
  2. Watch and share my video about reaching out to friends having difficulty in their marriage. Watch video.
