And It Was So

Written by Suzanne Benner

Are you facing an unwanted divorce or separation?

“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.’” (Genesis 1:3)

“And God said, ‘Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water…And it was so.” (Genesis 1:6 &7b, NASB)

The first chapter of Genesis tells the story of creation.
A pattern quickly emerges as we read the account. First God speaks; then whatever He says happens. Sky, seas and dry ground, plants and trees, sun, moon and stars, sea creatures, birds and animals of every kind appear at the sound of God’s voice.

Over and over, the words repeat, “And/Then God said…And it was so” (Genesis 1:6-7, 9, 11, 14-15, 24, 29-30)

God spoke the world into existence. His word is fact. Consider what that means for us, in the twenty-first century.

God is powerful. If it took only the word of His mouth to create the universe, can any problem we face thwart His purpose for our lives?

God is faithful. Unlike us, God’s words and actions are perfectly united. What God says, He will do. “God is not human, that He should lie, not a human being, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?” (Numbers 23:19)

Holy and Almighty God, I praise You, Lord, Creator of heaven and earth. Your power and Your faithfulness go far beyond my comprehension. All creation stands before me as an example of Your greatness. Help me to remember that You still speak. I want to trust You and not be afraid. Keep me in Your unfailing love. Amen

Questions: How does knowing God spoke the world into existence help you face your current circumstances? In what area of your life do you need a reminder of God’s faithfulness?

    Tasha,
Being able to pray for you is a privilege and a blessing for us as well! I’m glad that you were encouraged and pray that God would continue to remind you of His faithfulness. Good friends of ours who had been waiting for a child for 7 years just had a little boy this week…..Don’t give up!

Rasheil, Gail, and Doris…thank you so much for your words, prayers, scriptures, and testimonies! They have all really touched me, that you three (without knowing me) would take time to extend encouragement. I appreciate the Godly reminders, and am more then excited about what God will do through my husband and I. We look forward to when God will bless our family with a little one, and we know that God has a plan much bigger then either of us. I’m only 32, but you know how our minds start to think that 40+ is right around the corner, and then it may be even more complicated to become pregnant. But, my life is not my own! So I give it all to Him, my creator, my maker!!! Thank you all, and I pray that God will also bless you with your heart’s deepest desire as you continue to delight in Him!

    Hi Tasha –

I stand in agreement to the prayers of Doris and Gail for you. I wanted to share with you a testimony from a friend.

I met my friend and her husband, at the time serving in a church as assistant pastor, several years ago. They had been praying for a child for years at that time and had been having trouble conceiving a child. At the time, it made me question things because here was a pastor and his wife, having difficulty having their prayers answered. But eventually I realized that God’s answer is sometimes, “just wait.”

Our paths cross again several years later, only for me to discover that they now have two young children. And not only are they beautiful, but intelligent, creative and very healthy, even though the doctor told her she may have health issues with the second-born. I can see that their lives are so blessed and full, as they continued to serve and grow in ministry.

God used her story to remind me to not lose hope and faith. As if that wasn’t enough, this sister told me THREE other stories of women who had children when they least expected, even in their 40′s.

There is really nothing impossible for God. No prayer returns to Him void.

I want to encourage you to continue praising God as an act of faith. May this Scripture remind you of God’s hand in His creation, in nature and in our own bodies:

    Psalm 147:12-18

12 Jerusalem, worship God! Zion, praise your God! 13 He made your city secure, he blessed your children among you. 14 He keeps the peace at your borders, he puts the best bread on your tables. 15 He launches his promises earthward – how swift and sure they come! 16 He spreads snow like a white fleece, he scatters frost like ashes, 17 He broadcasts hail like birdseed – who can survive his winter? 18 Then he gives the command and it all melts; he breathes on winter – suddenly it’s spring!

  • Tasha, Praying with you. I know you feel like a Sarah but your faithfulness in trusting Him is inspiring. May God bless your heart’s desire!

Tasha, I am so glad that you were able to identify with the area in your life where you needed to be reminded of God’s faithfulness. I think for women the issue of infertility is one of the most difficult to deal with on a daily basis because you are constantly reminded of all the women around you that don’t have the same problem. As you said, trusting in God’s timing is never easy. Let me pray for you right now:

    Dear Heavenly Father,
You have created in Tasha a deep desire to have a child of her own and yet after three years she isn’t yet pregnant. Thank you that Your timing is always best, and that You are never too early nor too late. You also know what is best for us and the issues that we deal with every single day. Lord, today would You remind her that not only as you faithful, but that You haven’t forgotten her and her husband? Show her Your handprint on their lives and help her to remember that You hear the desires of her heart. Amen.

One area in my life where I need to continue to remember God’s faithfulness, is with me trying to have a child. My husband and I have been married for 9 years, and trying to get pregnant for 3 of those years. It has been prophesied by many that we’ll have a child, but it’s hard waiting. I trust God though, and know that His timing is nothing less then perfect!

  • So encouraging to know that I don’t have to struggle to make things happen. HE can move mountains with one word, one thought. All I have to do is align with His plan and ask His mighty power guide me. The plan may be something unexpected or it might be just what I was hoping for, but either way, He is in charge and His way is good. Thanks for the reminder this morning, Suzanne. Mrs. Chizoba, Every one of us contributes to this forum, and today I’m glad YOU are here to remind me how much I need the interaction of this forum. May God bless YOU this day with more than you can imagine.
