Athletes in Action is looking for church partners for the 2017 sports camps season. These sports camps give young athletes the chance to develop their skills while being coached by varsity athletes who play competitively for universities in Atlantic Canada. AIA partners with churches and summer camps to introduce children to Jesus and increase their skills to help them develop into “Total Athletes.”
Here is what others are saying about AIA sports camps:
Our son, Chris attended your camp this week in Truro. We wanted to say thank you. He really enjoyed your camp. It was so well done.
From Shannon (Parent – Immanuel Baptist Basketball Camp – Truro, NS)
Your team did an awesome job! Our staff had nothing but positive things to say about the coaches and program, including the soccer portion and coach’s corner material. Well done! I wish we were able to have more people experience this camp.
From Tyler (AIA Partner – Malagash Bible Camp’s Soccer Camp – Malagash, NS)
Kalan really enjoyed his week at the last camp so [we] would like to sign him up [for another].
Sonya (Parent – Full Gospel Church Basketball Camp – Halifax)
The most powerful and lasting impact that the basketball camp made was by connecting our church to families in our neighbourhood. Now we are in a place where we have built trust with these familes – trust built on a shared experience of care for their children. Whether or not we see these families again, they now know that this community of Christ followers are people that care about them. Since the camp ended, I have started up a weekly pickup basketball night at the church for all ages. It has been a tremendous success so far, no doubt due in part to our newfound reputation as a ‘basketball church’. Not only that, but children and fathers from the camp have been coming weekly – a chance to strengthen relationships and play ball.
Pelham (AIA Partner – Grace Chapel Basketball Camp – Halifax)
The Athletes in Action Basketball Camp gave our church the opportunity to reach out to the community in a setting outside of the church building where we could connect with young people and also get to know parents in a relaxed and fun setting. The coaches did a great job of making sure the kids had fun while being challenged to improve their skills and examine who they believe God is and what He has done for us.
Lori (AIA Partner – Church of the Nazarene Basketball Camp – PEI)
We ran our first Basketball Camp in July 2016, because I wanted something new. The world we live in is not stagnant, and neither should our ministry be. We had 4 teenagers who helped with the coaching, corralling and communicating, which turned out to be a huge, unexpected blessing for them, their families and us! We had 32 registered for the camp – most of whom were NOT from our church, and although our fee was considered high ($125-$145), we offered a great program for the kids – including an extra 90 minutes at the end of the day, doing crafts, art, and Bible lessons to take home. This allowed parents to drop off at 8:30am and pick up at 5:00 pm. We had healthy/ homemade snacks provided by the women of our church, every day. I wanted to accommodate as many as possible, without excuse. The first day was “get-to-know-one-another” but the real impact began on the second day!! By day three they were starting to show fatigue – physically, but not spiritually – and on Day 4, we had 5 kids accept Christ – all from unchurched families. If you think the biggest mission field is overseas, think again. We were UTTERLY SHOCKED at how many kids did not even know who Jesus is, and had never entered a church. I was very impressed with the GENUINE COMPASSION AND BOLDNESS of the camp coaches throughout the week. Their enthusiasm for the Lord made Him desirable. Their authority gave it credibility. We boarded all four of them in our home for 6 days, and they were an impressive group of university-age guys and girl. Their example, boldness for Christ and highly skilled athletic ability was impressive for ALL who attended. This camp left a lasting impression on the kids of our church – as they still talk about it, even last night!
