God Can Use Kids Too

A few things have converged in my son Jack’s life over the past couple months. Back in the spring, he and I began reading Take Your Best Shot by then-nine-year-old author Austin Gutwein.  It is the story of a boy who decided he didn’t want to wait until he was all grown up to do [...] Read More >

Lessons from a Christmas Dress

Oh, my precious Sara. A girly-girl through and through. Last year she went through a bit of a phase of wearing a leotard (fully loaded with tutu and crown and scepter, I might add) around the house just for kicks. Like, every day, basically. I thought it was cute, until I tried to take her [...] Read More >

Moments For Moms – Daddy’s Girl

At church today I caught a glimpse of an amazing father-daughter relationship. I was intrigued and challenged and given hope all in that one moment. What did I see that touched me so deeply? After our congregation sang a chorus, we did the usual “greeting of those around you.” I watched a father greet his [...] Read More >

Mommy Was Wrong

Asking your children for forgiveness I did it again! I swear; I can’t seem to get this mothering thing down. Sara, my four-year-old, was simply in my way as I was trying to walk across the kitchen…this wasn’t deliberate disobedience on her part, by any means. And I yelled at her. The feeling in the [...] Read More >

My Baby’ss Starting Kindergarten

My Sara begins kindergarten this month. Let me rephrase…my BABY begins kindergarten this month. I have one foot in the school-aged-child season of life, and one firmly planted for one more year in the “mother of preschooler” role (thanks to my other “baby,” four-year-old Jack). I am not ready for this. At all. Sara, on [...] Read More >

Thank You for Me

“Therefore, whoever humbles {herself} like a child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:4). Sara, 4, had asked to pray before our breakfast this morning. That is quite typical of her. I think it’s more her penchant to take charge than her avid spiritual growth as of yet. But I happily obliged [...] Read More >

The Heart of the Battle

I just did one of the stupidest things in my life. As if someone else, I watched myself angrily put black suede sparkled boots on my daughter’s feet because she actually refused to brush her teeth without donning some type of footwear. We were in the midst of a battle – I could think of [...] Read More >

Tips for the New Mommy

Veteran moms share their best advice for those beginning the journey of motherhood These are some tips that I gleaned from some of the women of my home church, Blackberry Creek, in Aurora, Illinois. Spiritual & emotional: First things first – you won’t find time to spend with God. You will need to make time [...] Read More >

Why Moms Need Each Other

I believe that God wants me to have friends that will walk through this life with me. One of the best parts of my life is the amazing friendships I have. I lean on my girlfriends. God provides so much tangible love and support through my friends. In fact, a while back, I was having [...] Read More >
