<p><strong><a href="http://thelife.com/experience/chat/room/?channel=cwt-forum">Join us for our Daily Devotional Chat</a> today in our Women’s Chatroom at 10:30am EST. </strong></p>
<p>Recently my husband and I were waiting for a connecting flight in a large airport. Our first flight arrived early enough to be able to request an earlier “standby flight” for our last leg of the trip home. We had already been in the airport about five hours and we were anxiously waiting for our “standby status” to be cleared. As weary travelers, we didn’t want to wait three more hours for our reserved flight. We prayed and waited while we watched the monitor for our “stand-by” clearance. Finally, the agent gave us clearance to board the plane.</p>
<p>This scenario reminded me of my prayer life. Many times, I have to wait and “standby” for God’s answer. God doesn’t always answer my prayers immediately when I pray and I have to wait in God’s waiting room for a while. Our society has conditioned us to expect immediate results. We find it very difficult to wait for anything.</p>
<p>In I John 5:14 we read, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” God always hears our prayers for our needs, desires, or wishes. Yet He may not be ready to answer them. While we are in God’s waiting room He may want to build our character, teach us patience, or it may not be the right time for the prayer to be answered. Spiritual growth may take place in our lives while we are learning to trust Him for the answer.</p>
<p>We must ask, wait, and trust Him for the answers to our prayers. He may answer our prayers more abundantly than we can ask, in His timing. Paul tells us in Ephesians 3:20 “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”</p>
<p>Isn’t it wonderful that we can have the privilege of leaving our needs, concerns, and wishes with the Lord? Ask Him for patience as you wait for Him to answer.</p>
<p><em>Dear Lord, thank you for the promise in your Word that You hear my prayers when I pray. Teach me the things You want me to learn while I am waiting. Give me patience as I wait for You to accomplish Your will. Help me to trust You for Your timing while I wait for You to answer more abundantly than I have asked.     Amen.</em></p>

<em>“If you need wisdom—if you want to know what God wants you to do—ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking” (James 1:5).</em></p>
<p><strong>When you pray, do you ask God for little things or do you just ask Him to do big things for you?</strong><em><strong> </strong></em>Often we think God does not care about the little or insignificant concerns we have, however, He does care about the little things we are concerned about, like parking places etc.</p>
<p>The little things can weigh heavy on our hearts so we are distracted from placing our thoughts on the Lord. He is waiting for us to ask Him for our needs and desires of our heart whether they be little or big, if they are according to His will. When He answers the little things we pray for, our faith grows and we become more bold and confident to ask for the bigger things.</p>
<p>I find it rewarding whenever I ask God to give me wisdom regarding a birthday gift for a friend or family member. He gives me an idea, the recipient is happy about their gift.  I have seen God answer my prayer, and my faith grows. We read in James 1:5, “If you need wisdom—if you want to know what God wants you to do—ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking.” He is waiting for us to ask him for the desires of our heart, don’t waste your time trying to come up with your own answers.</p>
<p><strong>God wants us to develop an intimate relationship with him</strong> so we feel comfortable asking him specifically for our concerns for our families, friends and ourselves. He desires for us to bring our most intimate desires to Him. We need to be honest with Him about our feelings, our longings, our needs and our wants. If we have resentment, unforgiveness, or other sins in our lives, it puts up a wall between God and us. However, if we confess our sins God is faithful to forgive our sins and cleanse our heart and the wall will come down.</p>
<p>As we grow into a more intimate relationship with the Lord, we will bring our concerns with a right motive. We read in James 4:3 “When you ask, you don’t get it because your whole motive is wrong — you want only what will bring you pleasure.” Our motives may be for our own benefit, not how God would want to answer our prayer.</p>
<p>We must have an open mind and ask God how He wants to answer our prayers. Be on the lookout for the answer to your prayers.  Sometimes we do not recognize them because God has answered them differently than we thought He would or should.</p>
<p><strong>Do not under estimate the power of prayer.</strong> When we realize the power of prayer, our faith will increase and it will give us more confidence and boldness in our praying.</p>

<p>Do you get tired of the struggles and challenges in your life? I do, sometimes. It seems like there always are challenges in our lives. Our own agendas, health issues, busy schedules to name a few. Maintaining a home is a never-ending job. You get one thing fixed and then there is another. There are often stressful situations within our families or place of employment.</p>
<p>However, God has given us encouragement in His Word. In Isaiah 41:10, we read, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” It is a comfort to know we don’t have to be afraid or dismayed because God is always with us. He will strengthen us, help us, and hold our hand as He walks with us through the challenges of life.</p>
<p>God may try to get our attention by allowing trials and challenges to come into our lives. They often cause us to be still and listen to God’s voice. Many times, we are so busy with our own agendas, families, responsibilities, and activities that we do not take time for God. Our hearts need nourishment from God’s Word to persevere.</p>
<p>The natural thing is to protect ourselves from pain, disappointment, or discouragement. It does not matter if we are children or adults we all face challenges. They just look different. Humanly, we want to avoid stressful situations and pray, “Don’t let anything bad happen to me.” To which the Lord may say, “I need to allow disappointment, pain, and failure. I want you to learn to trust me more when you are afraid and troubled so I can walk with you. Then I will pour my blessings on you.”</p>
<p>God may allow challenging situations in our lives for a purpose—to develop our character and spiritual growth. Trials and challenges are inevitable. We must learn to expect them, submit to them, and learn from them. The challenges we face are not meant to destroy us. They are exercises designed to make us strong enough to fulfill our God-given assignments. God also wants to reveal His deep love for us through our trials. Trials help us move from theoretical faith to practical faith. Let’s pray we will see our challenges as spiritual exercises designed to make us become stronger spiritually and as a person.</p>
<p>When we are overwhelmed with a challenge, we have material for a miracle. If we invite God to get involved, follow His directions we will see amazing results.</p>
<p>God has created each of us for a unique purpose and given us a God-given assignment. He wants us to trust and obey Him, developing an intimate relationship with Him, as we walk through our journey of life. However, often we walk away from Him and take our own route, which leads to additional trials and challenges.</p>
<p><em>Dear Heavenly Father, help me to:<br />
•    Expect, submit, and learn from my trials and challenges.<br />
•    Trust You when I am afraid or troubled.<br />
•    Cast all my anxieties on You because You care for me.<br />
•    Understand, accept, and be motivated to pursue my God-given     assignments.<br />
•    Trust You to provide the resources to fulfill my God-given assignments.</em></p>

The other day I met a friend at the mall for lunch. After lunch, we strolled through several stores admiring the beautiful Christmas decorations. The mall was very festive with the music and sparkling glitter of the season. Together we shared some of our childhood memories. I shared with her my memory as a young girl shopping with my parents in our city and hearing the Christmas music over the loudspeakers.</p>
<p>As we were admiring the beautiful tree ornaments for sale in one store, she said, “Sometimes I think it would be nice to get all new tree ornaments, but the new ones wouldn’t have memories.” I agreed with her.  Each year, as I get out the tree ornaments, I have happy memories from the past. I find the salt dough angels and snowmen I painted with my sons about 35 years ago. The four angel ornaments one of my sons received remind me of when he was a special character in a Christmas production. Each ornament represents a person, a place, or a time. The ornaments on our trees give nostalgic reminders of cherished memories.</p>
<p>What kind of memories do you recall during the Christmas season? Are they about the warm and cozy family times you shared, baking cookies with your grandmother &#8230; or are they of the conflicts you experienced? Often people dread their family gatherings because of negative memories. We read in Proverbs 10:7 “The memory of the righteous will be a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.” As we walk with the Lord and invest in our relationship with Him, we will be demonstrating to others that He is our refuge and strength and our help in times of trouble. Our family and friends will remember what they see in the way we live our lives.</p>
<p>During this Christmas season, ask yourself, “What kind of memory would God want me to leave with those whom I come in contact with? What kind of a Christmas legacy am I leaving with my family?” One of the greatest gifts we can give our family and friends are the memories of how we love and obey the Lord Jesus Christ.</p>
<p><em>Lord, show me practical ways in which I can leave the memory of a woman who loves and obeys the Lord and who attracts others to Him. Help me to be mindful of what memories I am making with others this Christmas. Amen.</em></p>

<p>“Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4 NIV).</p>
<p>What is your greatest delight? What gives you great pleasure or satisfaction?</p>
<p>I am delighted when my grandchildren run up to me with a hug, or a friend calls me on the phone just to chat, or my husband brings me flowers.</p>
<p>To delight is to enjoy, take pleasure, be glad, satisfied, savor, or appreciate.</p>
<p>When we delight in the Lord, his desires will become our desires.</p>
<p>How do we delight in the Lord?</p>
<p>We will delight in the Lord when we develop an intimate relationship with him. We will become spiritually hungry, and passionately in love with Him. Jesus told his disciples in John 14: 15 “If you love me, you will obey what I command.” Then, our desires will align with His desires and our hearts will desire to please him, resulting in peace and contentment.</p>
<p>However, our hearts desire is often contrary to what God desires for us and takes us in the wrong direction. When we don’t have an intimate relationship with the Lord, our human nature desires sinful things, as when we are angry, and we want to seek revenge. If we don’t delight in the Lord we won’t know what He desires for us. If we don’t have an intimate relationship with God it is hard telling what we would ask for. We may be asking for trouble missing God’s best for us.</p>
<p>Don’t be afraid to ask the Lord for His desires since His desires will be better than your own and you will find peace and contentment as you submit to them.</p>
<p>The Lord has not promised to give us all we humanly desire, but the desires of a heart submitted, and delighted in Him.</p>
<p>We must choose to delight and submit to the authority God has placed in our lives. If we don’t submit to those in authority over us, we will find it difficult to submit to God.</p>
<p>Priscilla Shirer writes in her Bible study He Speaks to Me, “Delighting ourselves in God rolls out the red carpet for God to march right in and plant His good, acceptable, and perfect desires in our hearts so that we can get busy praying them and getting some answers.” 1.</p>
<p>Psalm 37:4 tells us when we delight in the Lord He will grant us the desires of our heart. Our desires will be His desires and we will experience more answers to our prayers and contentment. We are not invited, we are commanded to delight.</p>
<p><em>Lord God, May my heart find delight in You. May Your desires be my own. Amen.</em></p>
<p><em>Father, I choose to delight in you. Show me the areas of my life I need to submit to you. I want to spend more time in your Word and grow into an intimate relationship with You so your desires will be my desires. In Jesus’ Name.</em></p>

<p>Imagine you are camping with your family by a big lake. You’ve cooked dinner over the fire and now you are relaxing around the campfire roasting marshmallows and eating s’mores. There is no wind and the lake is perfectly still looking like a mirror reflecting a beautiful sunset. After eating the s’mores, the kids decide to throw rocks into the lake. They are captivated with the ripples they are making in the water, having a great time seeing who can make the biggest ripples.</p>
<p>Dad comments to Mom that the ripples the kids are making when throwing the rocks in the water remind him of the affect our prayers can have on others. Our intercessory prayers for our family members, friends, co-workers and others to enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ will have a ripple affect. They will affect their lives and the lives of those with whom they come in contact, even future generations.</p>
<p>In my family archives I found a letter written by my great-grandfather in Poland to my grandfather who had immigrated to America. In the letter, he wrote that he was praying for my grandfather, his children, and grandchildren. It has been a blessing for me to see, in writing, that my great-grandfather living in Poland had prayed for me when I was a small child. My great-grandfather’s prayers had a ripple effect on my grandfather, my father and on me.</p>
<p>We might be surprised how our prayers for our friends, neighbors, co-workers have a ripple effect on their lives and the lives they touch. When we introduce someone to Jesus Christ and he or she invites Him into their life, that person will have an influence on their families and others. We will never know many people they will influence for Jesus Christ in their families, neighborhoods, workplace and beyond.</p>
<p>Another way we can have a ripple effect is how we live our lives. As we seek the Lord ourselves and invest time, energy, and effort in our own walk with the Lord, we will have a ripple affect on our families and relationships.</p>
<p>In Psalms 128:1 and 2 it says, “When we walk with the Lord and follow his ways, we will enjoy the fruit of our labors and our lives will be rich”. Let’s deliberately pray for our loved ones, walk with the Lord and follow his ways then we will see the ripple effect, just as our kids enjoy the ripple effect from the rocks they throw into the water. We will enjoy the fruit of our labors and be richly blessed when we see God at work in the lives of others. We may not see the answers to our prayers during our lifetime but they will be in God’s storehouse and have a ripple effect.</p>
<p><em>Dear Lord I want to follow your ways so my prayers and the way I live my life will glorify you and have a ripple effect to my loved ones and those with whom I come in contact. Help me to be sensitive to the needs of others so I can pray for them and encourage them in their walk with you. Amen.</em></p>
<p><strong>Questions: </strong>Do you pray intentionally for your families, neighbors, co-workers, friends, pastor, Missionaries etc?  Do your prayers or the way you live your life have a ripple effect on others?</p>

<p>Today, we are living in challenging times. We live in the midst of a cultural war in a troubled world. God is being pushed to the perimeter of our culture at a time when we really need Him. When we look at the things that are happening in our country, it’s hard not to get discouraged. We fear for our future and the future of our families, living in these crucial unstable times.</p>
<p>In Nehemiah 4:14, when Nehemiah faced opposition rebuilding the wall in Jerusalem he told the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, sons, and your daughters, your wives and your homes.” Just as Nehemiah asked the people to fight for their families, we need to fight with prayer for our families and friends.</p>
<p>We have the opportunity to partner with a great and awesome God to fight the opposition of the enemy with prayer. To pray effectively we need to know the frustrations, fears, concerns, dreams, and expectations for our loved ones. Now and then, we will need to ask them, “How would you like for me to pray for you?”</p>
<p>A family’s faith can be lost in one generation; however, we can be defenders of our faith in this spiritually deprived culture we live in. Our daily discipline of intentionally praying for our loved ones threatens the enemy. Life is full of disappointments and crises, if our loved ones turn their backs on their heritage of faith, they will have to face their challenges and trials without God.</p>
<p>Not all prayers may be answered immediately or even in our lifetime. However, God will acknowledge our intercessory prayers and answer at just the right time, in His timing.</p>
<p>Recently I was challenged during a recent Beth Moore “Believing God” Bible study to ask myself do I really believe that:</p>
<p>1.    God is who He says He is.<br />
2.    God can do what He says He can do.<br />
3.    I am who God says I am.<br />
4.    I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me<br />
5.    God’s Word is alive and active in me.</p>
<p>If I really believe God is who He says He is and can do what He says He can do, I will bring my petitions to Him with boldness and confidence.  According to His Word, I am His beloved daughter and He delights in me. If I develop an intimate relationship by believing His Word, then His desires will be my desires therefore; He will give me the desires of my heart.</p>
<p>When we pray, we need to ask God to fill our minds with His desires. We can do that by being in His Word. Then we not only find ourselves in intimate communication with God, but our minds will be renewed to think His thoughts, about the requests we’re praying for, instead of our own. Ultimately, it seems like God shrinks what we thought as impossible to a possibility and gives us confidence as we wait for His answer.</p>
<p>Questions to ask ourselves:<br />
Do I really believe God is who He says He is?<br />
Do I really believe God can do what He says He can do?<br />
Do I really believe I am who God says I am?<br />
Do I believe I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me?<br />
Do I believe God’s Word is alive and active today?</p>
<p><em>Dear Lord, forgive me for my unbelief. I yearn to believe that you are who you say you are and you can do what you say you can do. I want to believe with all my heart that I am you beloved chosen daughter. I desire to be the woman of God, defender for the faith of my family.<br />
</em><br />
<strong>Questions:</strong> Do you really believe that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you? Give us an illustration of how you have acted upon that belief.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-17473" title="family_praygrandkids" src="http://powertochange.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/family_praygrandkids.jpg" alt="family_praygrandkids" />What a joy it is to have that precious little grandchild come running into your arms with hugs and kisses.</strong> The six-year-old granddaughter calling to tell you she lost her first tooth or your seven-year-old grandson excited about making his first goal in his soccer game.</p>
<p>In addition to the senior discounts, grandchildren are one of the rewards of growing older. Mary H. Waldrip says it well, <em>“Grandchildren are God’s way of compensating us for growing old.”</em></p>
<p>I grew up in a Midwest rural community many years ago. I didn’t encounter the temptations and pressures my grandchildren are facing today in this media driven culture. Our society is teetering on the brink of moral and spiritual bankruptcy. I pray for protection from the evil deception in the world.</p>
<p>I have nine grandchildren, ages ranging from three years to twenty-five years. <strong>As a long-distance grandmother for many years, I was not fully aware of my grandchildren’s immediate needs. I prayed that God would bless them, give them good health and protection.</strong> Ultimately, I became frustrated and felt something was lacking with my vague and general prayers. I asked God to show me how to become more deliberate in praying for them.</p>
<p>After reading <em>Grandma, I Need Your Prayers</em> by Quin Sherrer &amp; Ruthanne Garlock, and <em>When Mothers Pray</em> by Cheri Fuller, prayers for my grandchildren changed dramatically. The books were full of practical advice, encouraging me to use specific scriptures in praying, motivating me to pray regularly and specifically for their emotional, physical and spiritual well-being.</p>
<p><strong>I want to share some of the practical advice I pursued.</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>I developed a <strong>Photo Prayer Journa</strong>l in a three-ring binder with a section for each grandchild. Each section had a profile sheet with the grandchild’s picture and information about their school, church, friends, and activities. This is followed with several blank pages on which I record myprayer concerns, hopes, and dreams for the grandchild.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><strong>God’s Word became a manual for learning how to pray</strong> more effectively for my grandchildren. Praying scripture unleashes the supernatural power of God in their lives. When I pray according to God’s Word, I am in line with His will. As I started claiming God’s promises and personalizing the scriptures for them, I experienced more confidence and boldness in my prayer life.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><strong>New channels of communication opened</strong> with my older grandchildren when I asked how I could pray for them. For the younger children I consulted with their parents to keep abreast of specific concerns. Then I was able to pray more specifically for them.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>A <strong>primary prayer for all my grandchildren</strong> is that they will come to realize how much God loves them: That God will always be there for them, and they will accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and spend eternity with Him.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Paul tells us in Romans 8:26 that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us when we don’t know what to pray for. The Holy Spirit knows the needs of my grandchildren so<strong> I ask him to intercede</strong> according to His will. It is comforting to me that I can put my concerns in God’s hand, leaving them with Him. It shifts the burden to God, instead of carrying it myself</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>The love I have for my grandchildren would like to control their lives and keep them from pain, disappointment, or discouragement. Humanly, I want to rescue them and pray, “Don’t let anything bad happen to them.” To which the Lord may say, “I need to allow disappointment, pain, and failure so they will learn to trust and obey me so I can pour my blessings on them.” <strong>It’s important I pray for God’s will in their lives.</strong></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>God has created my grandchildren for a unique purpose<em>.</em> <strong>I pray they will discover their dreams</strong>, be motivated to pursue them, and trust He will provide the resources.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>It is important for me to <strong>communicate to my grandchildren that I love them</strong> and accept them even though I may not accept their behavior. I like to call them on the phone; send cards for holidays, note cards, or e-cards to offer encouragement, and let them know I love them and pray for them.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Blessings as a result</strong></p>
<p>I want to share part of a letter from my married granddaughter. It is a confirmation that praying for these precious grandchildren is never a wasted effort. She wrote, <em>“My grandmother’s phone calls, cards, and emails were encouraging and made a significant impact on my life throughout my teenage and college years. Her prayers and encouragement have been rock-solid reminders of God’s truth. Amidst my crazy and incredibly life-shaping year, her prayers helped me surrender the craziness of my life to God.”</em></p>
<p>My prayers for my grandchildren have strengthened my relationships with them. The <em>Photo Prayer Album has</em> been an excellent tool for me to stay connected to them. Whether they live nearby or far away, praying for them intentionally keeps me in touch. Often my prayers can be more powerful than my presence, when I let them know I am praying for them.</p>
<p><strong>Best of all, praying God’s Word has enabled me to pray with His power, direction, and wisdom.</strong> As their grandparent, I can have a major role in stabilizing and influencing their lives by praying for them during these turbulent years. It has given me fulfillment and satisfaction in praying for them.</p>
<p>The seeds of prayer we plant today will yield a harvest of blessing in the future. My prayer is that you have been challenged to pray strategically and deliberately for your grandchildren. In Isaiah 44:3 God told the Israelites, <em>“I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring and my blessing on your descendents.”</em> God still promises to pour out his Spirit and blessings on our descendents. Don’t we want that for our grandchildren and future descendents?</p>
<p><strong>The greatest long-lasting gift we can give our grandchildren is the gift of our time and prayers.</strong></p>

<strong><a href="http://thelife.com/experience/chat/room/?channel=cwt-forum"></a></strong> Paul tells us in Ephesians 3:20 “Now glory be to God! By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope.”</p>
<p>Have you given God the opportunity to accomplish infinitely more than you would ever dare to ask or hope for in your life?</p>
<p>We try to be self-sufficient and get so busy that we don’t invite God to get involved with our needs, dreams, desires, and hopes. God is waiting for us to ask for His involvement in our daily routines and the future. I wonder if He doesn’t get frustrated with us because He wants to give us so much but we don’t ask Him for it. Our prayerlessness denies Him the opportunity to show us His awesome power.</p>
<p>The next time you come into a situation that is too big for you to solve, or seems hopeless, invite God to get involved. He is waiting for an invitation. In The Prayer of Jabez devotional book, Bruce Wilkinson writes, “It doesn’t matter whether you are short of money, people, energy, or time. What God invites you to do will always be greater than the resources you start with.” When the hand of God is upon you He may ask you to do things you don’t think you are capable of doing. However, that is when He can show  His awesome power as we stretch and grow in our spiritual lives.</p>
<p>If we do not “ask or imagine” what limit does God have to exceed? Our finite minds simply cannot grasp what God has in store for us as His beloved children. We have no idea how many times we have prayed and God has answered our prayers but is waiting for the proper time to give the answer.</p>
<p>Do you notice when God answers your prayers? Ask God to adjust your spiritual vision so you will recognize when He is working in your life. Pray about the little concerns in your life then stand back and watch God answer, you will be amazed.</p>
<p><em>Father God, Please help me to thank You for the answers to my prayers. At the end of the day remind me to recall the many answers you have given, even the little ones throughout the day. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see Your power at work in my life. </em></p>
