Proven Principles or Guidelines

This resource serves to make strong, healthy and effective interdenominational, intergenerational and intercultural prayer teams. Over 25 years we have seen the benefits result in UNITY as well as one God story after another demonstrated through sustainable and measurable prayer movement in cities and communities by those who follow them.

1.    When you register your involvement with Breakthrough Prayer Ministry by completing and updating information online at breakthroughprayer.com, you assist us in serving you.

2.    Meeting weekly encourages consistency and commitment. Decide and agree on a time and location that suits everyone, and commit to it. Write it down. Be creative, if necessary.  Begin and end the prayer hour on time in consideration of everyone involved. Bring your Bible and declare and pray Scripture verses. Declaration of God’s Word is integral to your prayer hour.

3.    FACTS (Focus, Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication) verses are a key resource to unite, strengthen and encourage powerful and effective prayer.  Take the online training course and order Breakthrough! A Faith Adventure In Prayer training manual to become familiar with their format. FACTS verses can be automatically emailed to you after you have registered online as a Breakthrough Prayer Ministry member. They are also downloadable from the website at any time.

4.    Instead of discussing the needs, allow the Holy Spirit to guide your prayers concerning them. Minimize your personal needs.

5.    Be sensitive to hold in confidence the prayers and concerns shared in your team. Confidentiality helps to build respect, integrity and trust.

6.    All team members should be trained to facilitate the group so that prayer times can continue even in the absence, or relocation of the team facilitator, or contact person.

7.    Do not engage in lobbying, protesting or pressuring in social or political causes, regardless of how worthy the cause, as a Breakthrough Prayer Ministry representative. Breakthrough members can participate as an individual, but not under the banner of Breakthrough Prayer Ministry.

8.    Since Breakthrough Prayer Ministry is an interdenominational, intergenerational and intercultural prayer ministry, approaches to prayer will vary among teams and members. Let love, grace and truth guide you. Our goal is to pray in agreement and be unified by the Spirit. God’s Word is the best guide!

9.    Teams are encouraged to adopt a city in prayer i.e.:  pray for God to raise up Breakthrough teams for the domains of another city of His leading without taking on issues beyond their spheres of influence.

10.    Team members must be aware that their call and commitment to prayer will be tested and they will be distracted. Disunity is one of the enemy’s tactics: “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3 NIV).

11.    It is a privilege for Breakthrough Prayer Ministry teams to pray for others and for matters pertaining to that domain. Members must regard it as such.

12.    Children can learn from Breakthrough Prayer Ministry team’s model of regular prayer.  If you consider child care, pray for God’s provision. Also, plan ahead on how to deal with distractions such as the phone and children.

13.    Breakthrough Prayer Ministry is dependent upon your financial partnership. Opportunities and reminders are provided for your regular investment into this spiritual harvest. Your prayers and financial support make an eternal difference.
