The FACTS Scripture Verses are Designed to Guide ONE HOUR of Prayer
- Select the week appropriate Verses and open your Bible.
- Start by reading the Focus verse out loud and then pray to invite God’s Holy Spirit to help you focus your prayer hour to the desires of God’s heart. The Words of Scripture will align your thoughts and heart to His Spirit as you allow. Express that process to God.
- Next read the Adoration Verse out loud. Take turns to be intentionl to express your appreciation of God by telling Him what about Him is highlighted for you in that verse. Tell Him how that makes you feel. Park here until you sense you are ready to move on.
- Read the Confession Verse and ask God to reveal anything that may be hindering you from hearing Him. The Scripture verse itself may point that out. Consider this from a personal and a corporate perspective and quickly confess, renounce and forsake all sin as He reveals. There are times your one hour of prayer may be spent on when element more then another. Never rush the work of God’s Spirit and how He is leading you to pray. Always respond to the rhythms of His grace.
- As you read the Thanksgiving Verse begin to acknowledge God’s answers and give credit where credit is due. Acknowledge out loud the challenges and difficulties that are part of your world by expressing them with a thankful trust in the One who is able. “God thank you for this unexpected news – you are greater and I trust you.” Some times you may want to sing – do so!
- Now as you read the Supplication verse you are ready to begin declaring with authority and expectation into your domain of influence with a sensitivity to God’s purposes for people and circumstances. Pray into the things you know and listen to the things you don’t know that God will reveal. Move God’s hand by your faith. This is where power is at work when two of you agree about anything. Declare!!!
“God can do anything prayer can do!” (E.M Bounds)
“Don’t tell God how big your storm is, tell your storm how big God is.” (Author Unknown)
It may initially feel like a rigid and awkward excercise. Don’t worry. The more you pracitce this skill each week the more conditioned you will become by these values. Eventually they will shape your prayers into effective and very meaningful conversations. You may want to journal your prayer hour as a record of your relationship
Jesus Himself modeled dependence on God’s words. He often went alone to the mountains and to gardens to inquire of the Lord, receive God’s words, meditate on His Father’s life-sustaining words of power, hope and encouragement, and then to speak those words for our benefit.
JESUS ONLY SPOKE WHAT THE FATHER SAID TO HIM:
“For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say” (John 12:49-50 NIV; also see John 8:28).
There is power and life in prayerfully declaring God’s Word out loud because God’s Word is a living and active entity with anyone and any realm it encounters.
That is why at Breakthrough Prayer Ministry we provide intercessors with weekly themes of Scripture verses that we call the ACTS or FACTS verses. These verses serve as a Word focus for individual and group one hour prayer times. Over and over again they have proven effective in cultivating right attitudes for partnering with God in our spheres of influence by keeping us anchored in God’s Word.
Through His Word, God speaks to us and leads and instructs us how to pray His Kingdom onto earth as it is in heaven. His Word is never wasted:
“…so is my Word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11 NIV).
The Word in us enables us to obey:
“…the Word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it” (Deuteronomy 30:14 NIV).

- “We like the idea of spending one hour [in prayer] … Julie and I benefit from your FACTS Verses. We meet every two weeks to pray for our family issues. Thank you!” (Sharon, AB).
- “I pray with four people over the phone using this format and it is the most powerful thing I can do on behalf of the school … this has blessed my life abundantly” (Diane, SK).
- “God has totally changed my priorities with [FACTS verses]. When He makes changes they are everlasting. This hour each week keeps me working toward pure relationships with others so that my prayers are not hindered, but [can be] something to be reckoned with. And what person doesn’t want their prayers to be reckoned with?” (Danielle, BC).
- “Thank you for putting the fire back into my prayer life” (Carol, NB).
- “My involvement [in this hour of prayer] has influenced my spiritual growth more than any other: my intimacy with the Lord, understanding of Scripture (and) applying it to my prayers, perseverance in interceding and many other blessings have been mine due in great part to this ministry” (Dianne, MB).
In the Bible God highlights the value of how His Word keeps us from sinning, provides direction and discernment, reveals the thoughts and attitudes of our heart and equips us to listen and obey:
“I have hidden your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you” (Psalm 119:11, NLT).
As you pray in a group there is a way to maximize your prayer time.
