LOVE According to the BIBLE

faith_1corthinians1 Corinthians 13:1-13

If I could speak in any language in heaven or on earth but didn’t love others, I would only be making meaningless noise like a loud gong or a clanging cymbal.

If I had the gift of prophecy and if I knew all the mysteries of the future and knew everything about everything, but didn’t love others, what good would I be?

And if I had the gift of faith so that I could speak to a mountain and make it move, without love I would be no good to anybody.

If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would be of no value whatsoever.

Love is patient and kind.

Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.

Love does not demand its own way.

Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged.

It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.

Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Love will last forever, but prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will all disappear.

Now we know only a little, and even the gift of prophecy reveals little! But when the end comes, these special gifts will all disappear.

It’s like this: When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child does. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. Now we see things imperfectly as in a poor mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God knows me now.

There are three things that will endure – faith, hope, and love – and the greatest of these is love.

jason…i regret to hear of your case of adultery. we know that jesus has told us that he can forgive us when we make him our lord and savior however the same christ allows spouses to divorce over the cause of adultery as found in Matthew 19. marriage, like life, is very sacred to God and he expects us to be faithful to him and to our mates. there is no reason to be having sexual relations with anyone but our spouses. fornicators and adulterers are specifically mentioned in the bible as in great spiritual danger but again, christ has provided forgiveness when we repent and come to him to make him our lord and savior. the bible also says that there are consequences for our sins which may be permanent ones, like divorce, however life with christ can continue and God can give new opportunities as we look to him to lead, guide us and direct us into walking in his steps of holiness and righteousness. i encourage you to log onto knowingjesuspersonally.com or click talk to a mentor above so that you can begin walking with christ in your life and regardless of whether your wife divorces you or not, which is her right to do, your life will be able to survive and even thrive as you let christ work all things out for your good according to his promise in romans 8.28. i pray now that you would fix your eyes on christ alone at this time and commit your life totally to him. only jesus can rescue us from our great dilemmas, the greatest one being our sinfulness that he suffered so on the cross to set us free from. in his name i pray amen!

My wife and I have been married for 14 years. I committed adultry but I knew in my heart I still loved her. I want reconciliation and she has been hurt so bad that she has finally said “I don’t Love You”. I made horrible mistakes but I loved her still. You say “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance). Not this time!

to Goitom Issac- Love from the Bible is God’s love. It’s loving people unconditionally whether you like them or not. We are called by JESUS to love even our enemies. We can’t do it alone but we can do it with God’s help. It’s also forgiving people and letting it go when they hurt us. That is also hard to do, but with God’s strength we can do it. You can read a lot more about love if you have a Bible. Other wise, if you have christian friends, you can ask them for a Bible or a church nearby. You can also go to http://www.BibleGateway.com and find an online version of the Bible with many different languages to choose from. I am praying for you. Prayer–Father God I pray for Goitom right now show him Your love. I pray all of this in JESUS name amen I pray also that Christians will come along his path to encourage him. Love, Sharon

  • Rhonda says:

Hater…The 144,000 of Israelites you mentioned are ones that God knew would not falter or stray from His commands. It does not mean that they are the only ones that will be saved. Jesus died so that all the world would be saved, not only a few. It is because He does love us all, not only a select few…but all of us! God is real and He loves you very much. I am open to discussion if you would like and I am hear to listen to you. Are you also ready to listen to me? Why do you think God is not real?

  • Don says:

Dear brothers and sisters let us pray for His return, so He will bring His Righteous Kingdom on this earth, and let us love each other because the love is from Him, and this is His commandment that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another 1 John 3,23, yes brothers and sisters we can gain so many things, and we can do so many things as well, but as the apostle Paul said
in 1 Cor 13,1-13 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels but do not have love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing………now there abide faith, hope, love these three; and the greatest of these is love. As the believers in Christ Jesus we have to remember that our measure of our growth and building up with others IS LOVE. How do we know where we are?, what are the growth in us? are we build up?, Yes we can know this by the measure of LOVE. HE is LOVE and God as life is expressed in Love, love is the expression of God as life, so as we grow in His life the life can be express in us as love to others. O Lord Jesus how we need your grace and mercy, we love you so much, work in us. Grace and love to you all

  • Joan says:

God is awesome he does wonders, he has changed my life, since the day I received him as my personal savior jus lamb of God who died to pay my sins, a see God everyday , each step I take God is at my side, thank you father

  • Barbara Richardson says:

Well god is real, just because you have not had a personal experience with him is because you need to be able to do as you want and not suffer the consequences for their actions! The biggest lie satan pulled off was that he does not exist, therefor god does not exist,he is the king of liars and has no truth in him! We suffer because sin enter into the world in the garden of Eden that is why we suffer, die,we make decisions everyday that either save us or bring us close to death, but we will all die! So blaming god for our actions is a cop out,if you got n your big boys britches life with your choices and let others decide their own path, wrong or right i have nothing left to lose, but you may whine up losing everthing including your soul!!!

  • Don says:

The new testament, Recovery bible footnote 1 Corinthians 13:4, footnote 4, life is the element of God; love is the expression of God as life. Hence, God is love (1 John 4:16). God as life is expressed in love. All the fifteen virtues of love in vv4-7 arethe divine virtues of God’s life. Such a life differs from the outward gifts listed in ch 12. The Corinthians were pursuing the outward gifts, but they neglected love, the expression of God’s life. Hence they were still fleshy, fleshly,or soulish (3:1,3; 2:14). They needed to grow in life (expressed by their love in caring for the Body of Christ), pursing love, not the outward gifts, that they might be spiritual (2:15).

  • Claire Colvin Claire Colvin says:

Hi Joy, I think you ask a really interesting question. How patient should love be? I think it depends on a couple of things. Are you married to this person? Are there children involved? How long have you been together? How complicated is complicated? (is someone married? are there other people involved?) If you have no communication at all it’s going to be very difficult to have a relationship. Do the two of you not talk or do you talk but feel that you are not heard? Is your partner far away or unable to reach you due to working conditions? Communication is foundational to a healthy relationship. Have you tried different communication strategies? Do you feel like you are trying to communicate and he is not? There is a definitely a point at which patience is no longer what is required. If a relationship is truly over, patience won’t bring it back to life.

  • Joy says:

I understand that Love is patient and kind.I am in a complicated relationship.a relationship with no communication.Should I be patient?please help.

  • Doris Beck Doris says:

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit and leave a comment Daniel!! And your story is the most powerful evidence there is that there is a God who is not only powerful but personal! Come again!

  • Daniel says:

Life is too complex for there to be no God, dont you think? Okay lets think about it scientist believe the worl came from a “big bang” a bang? Isn’t a “bang” when things explode apart… not explode together. And they also believe that the entire universe was all compacted into a dot as small as a period… Now isnt it much more realistic to believe there is a God, a creator who Loves us. God has given us all free will, the intellect to make decisions and choices. You cant blame God for what the world does, we are all free to do what we want. And God does save HIS people, why arnt you living the blessed life? Well have you truly became “HIS” have you given your life to God? If you havnt then of course you havnt experienced God personally because you dont know him. Having a relationship with God is just like any other relationship, it is a process you have a “build” a relationship with Christ.
Im a living testimony i myself have been saved from a 25 year prison sentence, i have giving my life to God, and now i just cant stop the blessings [:

  • chastity says:

Hater; you sound very angry. Is there something we can do to help you. Did something happen recently or in your past to feel like you are at the present moment. I’m not hear to preach to you. Preaching to you will not help your current situation. Right now I’m here to listen. But if you would like me to explain God’s love to you I can, by showing to you what I’m doing right now. Listening! Showing I care. Holding my hand out to you or a shoulder to cry on. See for me this is the way Christ shows his love to us. Through us. Not preaching or quoting scriptures to someone who hasn’t understood Jesus. I care!

  • Claire Colvin Claire Colvin says:

hater, I’m not sure where you’re getting this 144, 000 figure. When I read the Bible I see that God DID do something so that EVERYONE can be saved. He sent his son, Jesus, to die on the cross on our place. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” WHOEVER believes in him. Not just 144, 000, not just the really good people or the really pretty ones. Anyone who believes in Jesus can be saved.

  • hater says:

WHY HE LET PEOPLE NUMBER GET BILLIONS THEN 144,000 ONLY GET BE SAVED ANT THE OTHERS WILL BE BURN IN HELL WITH THE CREATURE AGAINST HIM…. WHRE IS LOVE THERE WHEN HE HIMSELF CREATED MAN AND WOMAN

  • hater says:

144,000 ONLY SAVED AND EVERYBODY LEFT IS SACRIFICED?

  • hater says:

love does exist to to make us realized that there is no god.. if he let exist many people to exist when he knew all a;long ( in the bible that144,000 (12,000 each from twelve different Israelite tribes servants of God who had been sealed on their foreheads.) and others are left suffering.. where is the love there… he is so powerful why then let the others to be sacrifice.. so the god people left will feared him more.. it is tyrannic act!!!!! dAmn you if your reAL WHY NOT SHOW ME PROOF THAT YOU LOVE ME!!!!! THERE IS NO GOD!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hater says:

well god is nothing but a lie if he eally love us all then he will defiantly do something to save us all

  • Andrew Andrew says:

This is the greatest chapter in the Bible about love as it says it the way it is!

  • Joseph Fernades says:

U r made by God. why ? because he loves you sooooo much he give his own life for you….. who would do this in 2011 ?

  • Alfred Alfred says:

Wilesha, this is the first time I’m reading your plea for help (10 months after you wrote). The answer is in Jesus! Ask Him to come into your heart, to forgive your failures, and to fill you with His LOVE.

dal bahadur gurung, the same goes for you, and your timing is perfect, as God was waiting for you to ask! The answer is in Jesus. Let me use the “4 Spiritual Laws” to explain how it happens (Each law has Bible verses to back it up):
    1. God loves you and created you to know Him personally. (John 3:16, John 17: 3)
    2. Man is sinful and separated from God, so he cannot know Him personally or experience His love. (Romans 3:23, 6:23). Through religion and through good works we try to reach heaven, but cannot reach high enough to experience God’s nearness.
    3. Jesus Christ is the only provision for man’s sin. Through Him alone God reached down, so we can know Him personally & experience His love. (Romans 5:8, 1Corinthians 15:3-6, John 14:6).
    4. We must individually receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; then we can know God personally and experience His love. (John 1:12, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 3:1-8).

Jesus himself asks us to come, as we read in Revelation 3:20
We can ask HIM right now to come into our heart and be our Savior and friend.

    Here is a suggested prayer:
Lord Jesus, I want to know You personally. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for forgiving me of my sins and giving me eternal life, Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be. Amen.
Now you need to thank God for accepting you into His royal family. Secondly, it is important that you tell a friend what has just happened to you. You are a new person in Christ!

We are so glad that you found our site dal bahadur. Wanting to experience the love of God in your life is a good start, although we really can’t demand that God show us more of His love because He has already shown us all of His love through the gift of His son, Jesus Christ. So true kim, love is both patient AND KIND! we could use a lot more kindness in this world!

  • kim says:

    love is patient aND KIND

  • Doris Beck Doris says:

Mae ann you are so right when you said that love is something that you really can’t understand and that God’s love truly is incomparable. We are so unlike God that it is really hard for us in our humanness to comprehend His love, that it never ends, never changes, and is absolutely steadfast!

  • God’s love is uncomparable…unlike man that it could fades…but God is so amazing..His love endureth forever..God is good

  • love is something that you cant understand…it is a feeling of being confused..other say that love can change yor life..but for me its depends on what’s the outcome of the love that you bestowed in one person

  • Bernard Bernard says:

Absolutely, God’s love is the only love that satisfy us and meet our deepest longings. Yes, I agree with you that human love only last for a while and also is subject to situations and emotions that interfere. The winds of emotions. God’s love is stable and gives us security no matter where we find ourselves. It is a reason for praise and we are only scratching the surface about God’s love because according to the Bible it cannot be measured. Now, that should fill us with wonder. How big is God’s love? Any guess?

  • sphelele Gcwensa says:

so often we look for love everywhere and we expect people to be able to provide us with the kind of love that fills us up,fact is where there is the great i am (God almighty) there is love and if God doesnt form an integral part of all our relationships then we are limited to experience the kind of love that is defined by fellow humans, which inevitably lasts for a certain period, but God wants us to experience everlasting love,,,amazing!

  • anna Mendoza says:

This is fantastic!True love is putting God in your relationship and makes him one of your topic….really undescribable feelings!

  • Wilesha says:

I understand what everybody is trying to say, but I want to know how do you find “love” according to the bible… I can’t find it anywhere and my research paper due date doesn’t necessarily give me any spare time to really search it out… PLEASE HELP

  • Love says:

that is true love which human have forgot. but i still believe this kind of love still alive among human life. it is His love for us. Love speaks loudly than everything… you have anything but no love, it is nothing.

  • Tina Bradley says:

This sums it all up! The Word is great!
