Darren, It made my heart hurt to read your comment. I actually gasped. It is absolutely possible for a 15 year old to be abused. Attitudes like this are exactly why the victims of rape so often stay silent. No one ever EVER is responsible for the abuse they that suffer. No one, child or adult, has ever done anything to "deserve" the treatment that they got. It is a horrible thing to suggest what you've suggested here. "Knowing what you want" has no baring at all on what a person is forced or coerced into doing. Is it any wonder that abuse victims stay silent? What they have been through is horrible enough without facing accusations on top of it.

I find it hard to believe that a 15 year old male can be "abused". At that age you know quite well what you want, and considering how nearly impossible it is to make 12 year old boy do chores he doesn't want to do, to pretend a young adult of fifteen can be forced into a sexual situation is ludicrous.
I suspect this man's drug problem was really because of internalized homophobia and a failure to accept his real orientation.

This is Roger's story that he chose to share with us which is why he focuses on the part of his life that he does. We do have other great articles on this site that touch on stories that focus on abuse. The intent is definitely not to minimize their experience/situation. http://powertochange.com/discover/life/forgiveness/ is just one article that deals with some of the issues.

I am always amazed at how powerful God is today and the miracles he accomplishes. I am curious though. The article starts out, first sentence, discussing the abuse he chose to keep to himself for his own reasons but does not touch on the topic for the rest of the article. For those down trodden by sexual and other abuse; the article minimizes their experience/situation by using it as a tool to draw readers in and then subsequently discarding it in the process of change.

I would be interested in an equally descriptive followup article that covers the topic it started on the responce and recovery from abuse.
