At times I must admit that am encouraged when faced with tragedy. Not that I love tragedy! Imagine if we were in a world where there were no challenges, no pain, only the goodies of this world, how many of us would still go on our knees to pray? We pray to God thanking Him for every situation, yet we also pray to Him when in the midst of very great and at times painful moments! I see God as the fourth man in the fire, in every situation, He is just with us, only waiting for us to call on Him, to ask of Him, even though He knows what we need! He still remains God. Remember that He is right with us even in tragedy!

I can appreciate all your comments. One way of seeing our situations is to picture ourselves as sheep in God’s upland pasture. The path to a higher pasture goes through a valley, which may be difficult and dangerous. Yet that is where the fresh water flows! We need to drink deeply from that Living Water, be refreshed, and continue up the other side of the valley. Then we are in a field of greater blessing and have increased responsibility! Yes, God knows exactly where we are, and will guide us all the way through that valley! What comfort to know the Good Shepherd has our best interest at heart!

You are so right Dhanvin, God really is with us 24/7, living inside of us. When we are in the midst of the storm it is always good to be reminded of that.

  • God is 24 hours with you residing in your own heart.

Thank you, Esther, for the blessings of your wonderful insights on this post. I am always granted peace with I think about God’s promise to never give us more than we can handle together with Him – that is, He will not leave us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. And I love to be reminded that I am more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus. Truly our Lord is a merciful and loving God!

When faced with tragedy, we all feel like alone and that God appears so far away and we wonder what next! At times God allows us to pass through tragedy in order to get closer to him. In His word He tells us that He cannot leave us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. If He allows us to be tempted, He is sure enough to get us out of the temptation (in His own way). It is human to feel lonely while undergoing tragic moments, but remember that He promised that He will NEVER leave us nor forsake us. Under such circumstances, the same God is only a prayer away from us. You will agree that during such times, we become more prayerful than ever! Remember that Jesus too prayed when faced with the tragedy of laying His life for us, but He overcame and conquered death, we too can!

I can relate to you, Kara, and how hard it is when we doubt God. And like you, I appreciate Shirley sharing the story of losing her brother. I went through a period of deep doubt and confusion after my first husband walked out of my life. It was very difficult for me to understand where God was at that point of my journey, knowing that He hates divorce, while realizing that my husband was not coming back. What helped me was coming to understand how Jesus suffered so deeply for me and for all of us so that we could live with Him forever, and that He does have a plan for each of our lives. What is important is not for me to understand His plan so much as it is for me to maintain faith in Him and keep in close relationship so I can know His will for my life. Today I believe Jesus is and will always be by my side even when I cannot feel His presence.

Thanks for sharing such a painful story of your brother. It is truly a hard thing when we doubt God because it appears He is not there for us. Those are dark times. It’s also amazed me how when people prayed for me during that time I felt God’s strength even while I was not understanding what was happening.
