Thank you Doris! I will check out the mentors. Yes I am seeking out the male mentor through my church but it hasn't been easy...or the Lord is simply wanting to see how patient in my faith I can be. I like the surrogate grandfather idea as well as he has nana's but no male counter parts as they have both passes away. I will keep waiting on the Lord for the right matches to come along! Thank you.

Traci, are you part of a small group in your church? For many years we had a single mom in our group and her son was mentored by the guys in our group. It was so neat to see them pour their lives into his life and to see him grow up to be a man after God's own heart.

Another idea is to ask God for surrogate grandparents in your church who would 'adopt' you and your son and build into his life. I have also seen that work very effectively.

We have mentors on this site who might also have some great ideas. If you would like to have someone contact you, just fill out the information on this form and someone will email you. http://powertochange.com/discover/talk-to-a-mentor/

Ashley: I agree with what you are saying. I am in the exact same boat with my 4.5 year old son. I am looking for a male mentor for my son through the church, but I do think the suggestions are still good ones in some context.

I am a single mother of a 1 year old in which the father has never been present. This article had no advice in it for people like me. It was all about children from divorced parents and the title is "Meeting the Challenges of being a Single Mom". I think a better title would have been "Meeting the Challenges of Being a Divorced Single Mom Whose Children are Affected by it". This article had no advice for me being a single mom from the beginning and how I talk to my son when he starts asking me about his dad.
