Take my dream job and put my child in daycare?
I am a working mom in a two-income household. We are Christians and love our son very much. I have just been offered a promotion that is a dream come true. Everyone says it is my choice, but I read about the problems children have when their mother is working. The most recent Christian child development books I have been reading say I must stay home, unless I am a single mom. I am having the biggest internal struggle of my life right now, any
suggestions?
Advice: I can understand your temptation, and I also understand your loving concern for your child. Certainly a daycare center will not do the caring job of raising your child near so well as you will!
The great man of faith, George Mueller, told how he could ascertain the will of God. Here’s the pattern he followed:
- I seek at the beginning to get my heart into such a state that it has no will of its own in regard to a given matter.
- I do not leave the result to feeling of simple impression. If I do so, I make myself liable to great delusions.
- I seek the will of the Spirit of God through the Word of God. The Spirit and the Word must be combined. If I look to the Spirit alone with the Word I lay myself open to great delusions. If the Holy Spirit guides us at all, He will do it according to the Scriptures.
- I take into account providential circumstances.
- I ask God in prayer to reveal His will to me aright.
- Thus, through prayer to God, the study of His Word, and reflection, I come to a deliberate judgment according to the best of my ability and knowledge, and if my mind is thus at peace, and continues to be so, I proceed accordingly.
The Scripture I live by is Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not depend on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.”
