Getting Prayers Answered
Why do some people get their prayers answered–and I don’t? Have you ever wondered that? Have you ever wished that you could have a closer touch with God?
When you have a problem, you may talk with some special Christian about it. “Pray for me,” you ask. If anyone can get an answer from God, you figure that person can.
But there’s no reason why all Christians can’t have the power with God that the Scriptures promise. For the Lord certainly loves every one of His children for whom He paid the supreme sacrifice. If you are His child through faith in Christ, that includes you.
What conditions does God’s Word set down for answered prayer? Let’s look at them.
- Repentance is necessary. Second Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
Obviously sin keeps prayers from getting answered. But did you know that bitterness, resentment, bad temper, anger, and harsh words can come between us and God? The Bible says such things grieve the Holy Spirit. How can we make things right? First John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” When we are cleansed, we can look for answered prayers.

- Righteousness is necessary. James 5:16-b says, “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” Following this statement, God gave us an example of Elijah, whose prayer was answered. Elijah prayed it wouldn’t rain, and it didn’t rain for over three years! When he prayed for rain, down it came.Righteousness refers to a daily, steady walk with the Lord. We try not to let anything come between us and Him. God had first place in Elijah’s heart, as He probably does in the hearts of those we ask for prayer. In their lives we see Christ; when others see Him in us, they’ll be asking us for prayer.
- Forgiveness is necessary. Jesus said that when we pray, if we hold anything against anyone, we are to forgive that person; then God can forgive our trespasses (Mark 11:25).Sherry was sorry for things she had done wrong, so she asked the Lord to forgive her. But when she finished praying, guess what Sherry still held in her heart? Bitterness, anger, hostility…and unforgiveness toward a relative who had hurt her. Then she wondered why she still didn’t feel right with God!Hard to forgive some people for the way they have hurt us? Sure it is–for us! But I have found it possible to do so by holding such destructive, self-centered feelings up to my Lord and saying, “Lord, take these hurtful things. I don’t want them any more. Cleanse me. I just want your peace, joy, and love. I forgive everybody! “When I feel God’s peace, I know I can pray.
- Obedience is necessary. We read in First John 3:22, “…And [we] receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him.” Obedience is the trademark of a righteous person. And obedience entails more than just conforming to a nice little set of cut-and-dried rules. It is part of being turned into the Holy Spirit. That’s where doing “those things that are pleasing in his sight” comes in.God’s two great commandments call for love, and they cover every relationship and every circumstance: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind….Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39).God’s command also lie in principles His Word sets forth, such as “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).Obedience to God isn’t hard when we truly love Him and others.
- Sincerity is necessary. Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
- Agreement is helpful. Jesus said, “Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.”
- Persistence is helpful. Ephesians 6:18 says, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests”. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all saints.
- Faith is necessary. Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”When I’m praying, I often claim the promise that Jesus gave His followers: “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:24).
Do you really believe God can work in the lives of unsaved and backslidden loved one’s life in answer to your prayers? Do you believe God can help you work out your problems, help you get a job, pays the bills, get along with cantankerous relatives, co-workers, or neighbors?
Then stand back and watch God work as you pray! It will thrill you!
And here’s a great promise you might like to memorize: “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, and he will do this” (Psalm 37:4-5).
Please join with me in a prayer to my fiance so that, God can break all the curses he is carrying because of sin life he is living, he is taking alcohol and having adultery relationship. Please pray for him so that he can be saved and turn to Jesus. May Holy Spirit talk to him and change his mind by showing him true love and divine love i have for him and rescue him from the bondage which hold him in that relationship which is out of God will. I’ve been praying to God for his help in bringing my ex boyfriend back, i love him so much and cannot carry on feeling the way i do. I am so depressed, when he left he didnt just take himself away from me, he took eveything, all parts of my life, i cant see my friends anymore as i am friends with them through him, and it now feels awakward, his family had become my family, they saw me as family, and i was close to them. All i want to do is have him back, i want to make him see that he does love me and that we were just having a rough patch of arguments, i want him back so much and i just feel so alone. Please help me to pray, i know it might not be as important as other issues but it is so important to me, i really dont feel that this break up is right, it feel so different like my world has crashed around me. Please Pray for my family and I. About 3 years ago my mother had a series of strokes. She is unable to care for her self, my sister and I do all the work but we also have help from our family. I am 33 years old, and a single parent of a 6 year old. I am tired!! I pray every night for the Lord to continue to carry me. My daughter also prays every night, she is so forgiving and kind. She asked me the other night why hasn’t God answered her prayers ( blessing my mother and helping her walk again) I told her I didn’t know but we just have to have faith. I have been am honest person my whole life, now Im dealing with raising my daughter alone ( having to deal with her father who has turned to be very nasty), I have 2 jobs( thank you Jesus) and a mother to care for. I am tired and my heart hurts. I have been sad a lot because this seems like it’s going to be my life. I won’t give up because my daughter depends on me but I just want to know God still hears my cry. I have let space come between God and myself, I’ve made decisions I should not have because I was tired of being the “good one” all the time. It seemed as if it got me no where. It hurts when my daughter says she prays that God will give me a good man who will be a good father, a real father and a husband. She is to young to carry all of my mistakes. Lord please bless my mother, daughter and myself. Please allow me to have the finances I need, good health and Lord please help me to find a Good Man one who will know and love God. Please Pray for my boyfriend that he may find a job, and that God will bring him through the storm. Pray that the people who lied on him may feel convicted and want to tell the truth. We have a baby on the way, and I know that with God all things are possible, He makes the impossible possible, my heart is heavy but my faith is strong and I know the power of prayer , and no man can hurt a child of God! for the devil is a Liar! Don’t give up. Keep praying. God never tires of hearing our request and I am faithfully waiting for an answer to a specific prayer for 24 years. My time will come for him to answer and I now understand why it has been so long. This road of the last 24 years has molded me to who I am today. Jesus will prevail. NEVER EVER GIVE UP!

I have a prayer request to make for myself. I am not worthy enough to stand before God and take HIS Holy names. I am a wretched sinner. I have hurt my boyfriend of 5 years for almost 3 months just because I couldn’t forgive him completely for something he did in the past. We loved each other. I have been jealous, egoistic, selfish, self-centered, revengeful, unforgiving, stubborn, arrogant, angry, unkind, stony hearted. Now I repent for hurting him and making him suffer so much. He moved on and found a new girl for himself. I love him so much. I can never forgive myself for hurting my Love. I am ashamed for taking God’s blessings for granted. This was my first relation and he is my first love and I really want to end with one man in my life. I can never love another man in my life again. I don’t deserve him and his love. If only God forgives me and makes him forgive me. If only God gives me another chance to correct everything and to make him really happy. I want to love and care him with all my heart and soul and make him happy throughout his life. I pray for prayers to be answered that my sons will be healthy and wise and stop the anger, that my marriage will become strong and loving,that I will be able to fix my house that is falling apart daily, that we wont be so poor that we cant stay warm and pay our bills. First of all I just want to say that I have read all your prayers and I agree that in the name of JESUS all these prayers of been answered!!
I would like for all of you to also pray over my situation. I have been divorced now from my ex-husband for a little over 3 years. I still love him with all my heart and I believe he loves me to. The thing is ever since we parted we never saw each other again. I keep in communication with his mother who loves me very much till this day. She has told me that his life has been a great big mess since we split up. He has been in and out of crazy relationships and is now messing around with “Santeria” which is a Latin form of witchcraft.
When we were together I took him to church and he received Jesus and even got baptized by water. We would go to church but after a while we just stopped going and that’s when things went really wrong for us. He never really had a strong knowledge of the word of GOD like I do. Now he is living with his mother and finally for the first time in 3 years he is single but continues to be in that religion.
My request is the we pray that god will take him out of the religion and our marriage be completed restored by 04/10/11. I say that day because on 10/10/10 I made a packed with God that within 6 months time of my request everything that I had prayed for would be answered.
I’m a great woman of faith and I believe that my prayers have already been answered. I just would like for all of you to agree with me.

I have been praying that God will help me find a good job with benefits. I lost my job last August when the store where I had been working in for 4 years closed. After 21 years of working in retail I had finally found a job where I had good wages and insurance for both of us. Pray with me that God will help me find a job with insurance to replace the one I lost.
Please pray for my son. He was a high school student that made a mistake with Marijuana and is now been sentenced to two years in prison. We are asking for a new trial this week and I am praying that the judge will grant the new trial and he will receive a more reasonable sentence.
