I wonder what the first-century Christians would think about a church that is basically a social club? I can understand why people would want a church that is comfortable, but maybe we should start thinking about church as a verb instead of a noun; something that we actively participate in rather than a place we visit once a week.
I know there are many churches that get it right, but there are also plenty that seem to miss the point. Have you had bad experiences with church? Or have you ever felt alone at church?
Despite past experiences, there are some churches out there that get it right! There is no such thing as a perfect church. I was once warned that if I ever found a perfect church, I shouldn’t join it because I would just ruin it! However, there are likely communities of faith that could become a home for you if you are willing to find them.
