How to be Filled with The Holy Spirit – Homeless Jesus Example

The concept of welcoming Christ into our hearts and lives is presented early on in the Christian journey.
We are often quoted Christ’s welcome from Revelations 3:20, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”

So we take that first step and open the front door to Jesus. But what happens afterward?  With time, we show Jesus around, but do we treat him like a tentative guest or does he get to move in and make himself completely at home in our lives?

Why not ask to Jesus to move in today? He doesn’t just want to be a guest. Christ wants a key. Give it to Him, and you won’t believe the renovations He will do.

You can appropriate the filling of the Holy Spirit right now if you:

1. Sincerely desire to be directed and empowered by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 5:6; John 7:37-39).

2. Confess your sins.  By faith thank God that He has forgiven all of your sins – past, present and future – because Christ died for you (Colossians 2:13-15; 1 John 1; 2:1-3; Hebrews 10:1-17).

3. Present every area of your life to God (Romans 12:1, 2).

4. By faith claim the fullness of the Holy Spirit, according to:

  • His command – Be filled with the Spirit. “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18)
  • His promise – He will always answer when we pray according to His will. “And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked of Him” (1 John 5:14, 15).

How to pray in faith to be filled with the Holy Spirit:

We are filled with the Holy Spirit by faith alone. However, true prayer is one way of expressing your faith. The following is a suggested prayer:

“Dear Father, I need You. I acknowledge that I have been directing my own life and that, as a result, I have sinned against You. I thank You that You have forgiven my sins through Christ’s death on the cross for me. I now invite Christ to again take His place on the throne of my life. Fill me with the Holy Spirit as You commanded me to be filled, and as You promised in Your Word that You would do if I asked in faith. I now thank You for directing my life and for filling me with the Holy Spirit.”

Does this prayer express the desire of your heart? If so, bow in prayer and trust God to fill you with the Holy Spirit right now.

If you prayed this prayer, we would love to hear about it!

its true that Jesus stands at the door of our hearts.. and he urges all who here him knock not to hesitate.. but open the door..

the question then remains, why the hesitation?? my take is that we tend to here that knock way too many times.. reminds us that sometimes we have neighbours were not on speaking terms with..

when they come knocking.. we ignore them.. they will eventually get the message and go away.. we forget that Yesua is a very patient man.. he doesn’t give up that easily on those he wants to dine with..

at this point.. it becomes apparently clear that Yesua knocks on two kinds of doors:
1 those he wants to get acquainted with.. you know.. like a traveling salesman making his first sales pitch.. or his been at this game and the housewife he’s talking to is stranger to him
2 those with whom he’s dealt with before but they responded like a housewife who’s had to deal with too many nagging salesmen.. or he’s not the kind to quite on a potential customer.. yes the previous merchandise wasn’t state- of- the-art .. but this time i have something you just can’t say no to!!

my take is that.. Yesua in Revelations 3:20, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”.. was referring to those of the second variety.. those he’s sure that he’ll wear down till they agree to buy what he’s selling..

its kind of hard to eat at a stranger’s house.. would you agree that if you were on a date.. you want to get to know the other before you can master the courage to ask them out on a proper date… least of all invite then over to your house for a meal??

this depicts that if the relationship develops.. there is a likelihood that somewhere along the line.. bumps may appear.. you don’t want to see the other.. least have him show up @ your door!!

your mad.. you let the other know this by grandstanding him.. he knocks @ the door.. he doesn’t here you open.. least walk up to the door..

sounds like we want to frustrate his efforts of ever seeing us again.. but if he’s crazy about you.. he won’t let a door come between him and his object of desire..

for God so loved the world that he sent he’s only begotten son… to knock @ our door.. so that he who hearkens unto his voice.. he will dine with him.. [story of the short tax collector who climbed up a tree]

Deut. 18:16, “for this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Herob on the day of the Great Assembly [Exo 20:18-19] when you said, ‘let us not hear the voice of our the Lord our God nor see this great fire any more, or we will die’ ”

[Exo 20:18-19] when the people say the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and say the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. they stayed @a distance and said to moses, “speak to os yourself and we will listen. bit do not have God speak to us or we will die”

for this reason.. we hesitate to open the door out of fear.. we hurt our beloved n w fear retribution.. or we tell ourselves that we don’t deserve such a man in our lives.. boy did we blow it!!

the hebrews were afraid of God.. when moses was receiving the 10 commandments on their behalf.. they were busy on Terra fir-ma trowing a block party.. n God wasn’t invited..

and so Yeshua resounds the words of his prophet moses in deut 18:15, “if you hear my voice.. listen to me!!”

moses tells us why we must listen to this prophet in deut 18:-
1 Exo 20:20 [do not be afraid. God has come down {John 3:16 - for God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son} to test you {let he has an ear listen to what the Spirit of the lord is saying to the church} so that the fear of God {which is the beginning of wisdom} will keep you from sinning {if you love God, you will do as He commands} Sin no more.. that nothing worse may befall you]

    2 Deut 18:18 [i will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers {is this not the son of joseph the carpenter.. are not his brothers and sisters here with us??} i will put my words in his mouth {this book of the law shall not depart from your mouth}.. and he send forth his word and healed all disease.. and he will tell them everything i have commanded him {this is my commandment.. that you love one another with Agape love [the love of God in you] that your joy may be fool.. for this they will know your my disciples.. of you have love one for another.. if anyone says he loves God but hates his brother [hate crimes/ murder 1] he makes God out to be a liar, and the truth [Yesua] is not in him.. faith hope n love.. but all the laws and all the prophets are summed up in this.. the greatest is Love.. }

3 Yeshua is the fulfillment of moses’s teachings.. for we cannot revere moses the servant and not look to whom he was pointing to.. Yesua the Son [the Exact Radiance of the Father]

4 Warning!!! deut 18:19 [if anyone {Jew or Gentile; Slave or Free} does not listen to my words that the prophet will speak in my name {i do not speak of my own authority but of him who sent me}... my name shall be called everlasting Father.. i myself {I Am that I Am} will call on vengeance on him {i the Lord that I Am.. I Am.. a vengeful God.. visiting punishment to the children for the sins of their fathers to the third and forth generation of those who hate me [friendship with the world is enmity with God.. and to whom did God say.. today i have begotten you.. sit here until i make your enemies a footstool ] but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me.. those who keep my commandments } Exo 20:5-6 ]
