How to Host a Photo Scavenger Hunt

Are you looking for a great bonding activity for your family reunion, youth retreat or group event? Try a photo scavenger hunt. It gets people working and laughing together, requires little equipment and has lots of room for creativity.
All you have to do is divide the group into even teams and provide each with a camera and a list of pictures. The teams should be of no more than 15, and are a great way to mix people up. Let everyone pick one other person to be with and mix them up the pairs as much as possible.
Set a time limit, boundaries and a meeting place, and let the fun begin! Make sure someone has a laptop to load the pictures so you can see the shots after dinner. If you’d like, send the best ones for printing, select someone to judge the photos and award prizes to the winning team.
A list of 10-15 pictures should keep people occupied for a couple of hours. The only rule is that EVERYONE has to be in each picture (except the person taking the picture, rotate this job so everyone can participate).
Here is a list of pictures to get you started. You can adapt this for your group and choose ones appropriate to your setting.

- Catalog pose
- Do exactly what the sign says (any sign can work)
- Most creative use of “leap-frog”
- “I can’t believe we all fit in here!”
- Picture with a farm animal (in the city, just get creative)
- With a government official
- Everyone wearing someone else’s shoes
- Working in a fast food restaurant (bonus points if you get to wear a hat)
- Spell something in people-family name, hello, SOS, .etc.
