But as so often is true with addictions of any kind, it is usually much more complicated to actually be freed from that addiction. You see there are many people who have felt the huge toll that pornography has had on their relationships and yet have been unable to shake the hold it has on them. I have a friend who almost lost his wife and kids because of his life-long addiction to porn. He would tell you that the only way he could be set free from that was through the work of Jesus in his life. His wife as well says that she has been completely dependent on Jesus to forgive her husband and see their love healed. Jesus does make the ultimate difference because He changes a person from the inside and sets them free from the things that have control over them. How could I be taking advantage of people by telling them how they can be set free?

Behind it all, though, there needs to be determination. I like what you say, Dayo, “You must focus on Jesus.” That is two-fold because one needs to fill the void with something, and also, Jesus gives us the power to overcome temptation. I did not exactly have an addiction to porn, but to masturbation. What helped me, was God telling me “I did not give you sex for self-gratification, but to enhance your marriage.” I needed to tell myself that my body is the temple of the Living God! Also, I had to pray that I would receive joy (in that area) only from being able to please my wife.
Dear God, we thank You for sex, and pray that it be used only as You intended it. Thank You for all the people who are out there to help set men free! Give us the wisdom and courage to tell the devil to get lost, while our mind is occupied with more worth-while things. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
