How Old is the Universe? Video provided by: Focus

One of the biggest points of tension is that the Bible seems to say the world was made in six days, and the scientific evidence says it took fourteen billion years. In this video we ask how they solve this difficulty. How old is the universe?

Hi Evelyn, while there is much about DNA that reflects a Creator (e.g. the vast amount of information contained within the DNA, the intricate machinery within the cell to replicate and use DNA) and defies the impact of evolution (e.g. any observed genetic mutations has always resulted in the loss of information not gaining new information, the inability of human attempts to replicate the forming the proteins necessary to the evolution of DNA) it would be inaccurate to say that DNA is a component of inanimate objects like dirt, moon and Sun. DNA is a component of cells in living organisms but not minerals or elements that make up these celestial bodies.

  • Evelyn says:

In scientific words to prove that we came from one creater is this: All earth, animals, humans, dirt, asteroids, moon, sun, bird-all of us have a DNA meaning that we all came from one God that made the universe, earth, planet etc…
Big bang theory is just a theory, DNA is a fact. One creator.

Hi James, that is quite a powerful accusation. What has led you to believe that people who accept Creation are dumb, poisoned people who are missing out on life? For those who are followers of Jesus–believing that He is the Creator of all things who loves humanity so much that He was willing to sacrifice Himself to set them free–life is full of hope, love and joy. There is hope that God is directing the path of thier life and will lead them into a meaningful existence here in this life and for all of eternity. There is love that God expresses in abundance and love that binds Christian brothers and sisters together. And there is joy in living out the life that God created us for.

One of the great joys of living in a created universe is that in every aspect of the world that surrounds us God reveals Himself, so science becomes a way to connect even closer with the One who loves us completely. It is not just an examination of what is but it is an ooportunity to discover why God has made things the way He has and to understand better His purposes for us.

Too obvious this is simply another lousy piece of creationist casuistry – Just when will these dumb poisoned people ever learn the truth , wake up and live their only life to the full?

So why do you have confidence that the Bible is historically and scientifically accurate, Nate?

Apparently a few scientists have been able to come to grips with the truth of the Bible.

I have heard this kind of commentary before from intellectuals discounting the scientific viability of the Bible and cornering it into the History/Fable section of their library. They are entitled to their opinion, I was just disappointed that you didn’t have any interviews from the scientists and biologists who came to believe the Bible was not only true historically but also lines up with science. The holes and missing links in evolution are numerous and the theory of evolution requires every bit as much faith or perhaps more than a creationist.

  • Jamie says:

Would you be able to summarize that answer for us Nate? I would love to hear their respinse to the question of the age of the universe.

  • Nate says:

Answers in Genesis has a very scientific answer to this question from PHD’s. I am disappointed that you only gave one point of view on this question.

  • I found this refreshing and encouraging. What would be difficult with believing that an indefinite gap of time existed between the world as it is found in Genesis 1:1-2 and the one God made it to be in Genesis 1:3ff.?

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (validating what science supports, an actual beginning. Then some event occurs that left the earth in a condition described as “without form and void.” These words could refer to a judgment that came upon the world to bring it to this condition. The activity of Genesis 1-2 from this point is one of forming and filling without form and void. The late Donald Barnhouse has a fascinating understanding of the event that caused the formless and void condition in his book: “The Invisible War.” Although it involves a degree of sanctified speculation, it seems to have merit.
