When I think about evangelism I’m often tempted to make it into this really complicated thing. That way I can convince myself that I should leave it to pastors to do; after all, they’ve got the degree.

Evangelism doesn’t have to be hard. In this video, Steve Berg shares a story of a spiritual conversation that started with a simple smile.

2 Corinthians 2:15 says, For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

How do you smell? I mean, spiritually, of course. Do you bring the fragrance of Christ into a room? Does God’s love spill out of you to the people around you? Christ’s Spirit within you can express that love in ways that you can’t even imagine when you follow his lead (Ephesians 3.20-21).

As you look for opportunities to talk about God, don’t miss the little moments. It can be tempting to ignore the Spirit’s prompting and think, “That person would never be interested.” Pay attention to those moments. When you are patient with flustered clerks instead of irritated, you create an opportunity for them to notice that you are different. Your kindness brings the aroma of Christ into the situation.

For Steve, a smile started a conversation and he was able to share about something going on in his heart. When people meet you, can they tell that you have good news? going on in his heart. When people meet you, can they tell that you have good news?
