life_bladderYou are NOT alone…

One out of every 10 woman over 40, one out of every 8 woman over 50 and one out of every 4 woman over 60 experience bladder control problems. The good news is that 70% of urinary incontinence can be treated, cured or well managed.

Don’t let embarrassment and misinformation keep you stuck at home this summer. Incontinence is not a normal part of aging. It is only a symptom, not a disease. You can take control of your life through the many options available today.

  1. Small changes in your behavior can make a huge difference:
    a. KEGEL exercises
    b. Avoiding caffeine and constipation
    c. Bladder retraining
    d. Drink 6-8 glasses of water every day
    e. Biofeedback & Electrical stimulations
    f. Many devices to help you regain control are available
    g. Herbal remedies
  2. Go and see you health care professional. Medications or collagen injections may work for you.
  3. Surgical approaches such as repairs and implants are necessary in some cases. Ask your doctor for a referral to a urologist or uro-gynecologist to discuss your options.
  4. Protective pads and underwear come in many shapes and sizes. Choosing the right one for you is important. Pads keep getting more and more discreet. Once you’ve found the right one for you, chances are you’re the only one who will ever know you’re wearing it.
  5. Condom drainage or a catheter are sometimes a final option. Infection-control catheters are now available that make things easier than ever.
