I am fighting a custody battle

Written by Dr. Ginger Gabriel, Ph.D., M.F.T

custodybattleI am going through a divorce and my husband is fighting for custody of 3 year old daughter. We have signed papers saying that I have the day-to-day care of her and he has visitation rights. My husband told my daughter she could call him anytime and he would come and get her. So, now every night she throws a fit to call him to come get her. He lets her do what ever she wants. I don’t want to lose my child.

Advice: You can tell your child, “we have to do what the Judge says and the Judge said you have to stay at my house.” I also suggest you order Four Steps to Responsibility by Jim Fay. You can get it on amazon.com. It will help you get control over your daughter by giving her lots of choices over things that she can have control over, while you take control over the stuff you need control over

(like where your daughter spends the night) . It doesn’t look good for your daughter to spend so much time at Dad’s house when the Judge said daughter was to be with you. It looks as though you have no authority. I suggest you order it today – it will help you immensely. Dr. Ginger
